Topic: Stupid Question Maybe...

Hi Guys. I just started teaching last month and I'm loving it! So far have 2 students and have a third starting this weekend and supposed to have a fourth after the holidays.

My question is this...I am 41 yrs old, I am teaching Rock, Rock Blues. I am studying metal to teach it in the future.  Will I be able to teach when I am old (not too far down the road)? I mean most students are young, will I be taken seriously to teach these styles when I am white haired, or should I start learning Classical now and teach it when I am older?

Thanks.

WOW I don't know how to reply other...age..whats getting old......Your as young as you feel...Its all a state of mind...

I'm 38 and still jump over my garden wall and intend to continue till my legs fall off.....I enjoy life so I feel young....

Think young think happy every thing else falls into place....

Imagine if the words of Imagine ever came true.....

Re: Stupid Question Maybe...

learn classical as well ....then you can teach whatever is asked of you
whatever genre learn the  basics well to pass on to your students
you dont have to be a world class git player to teach..just make sure all the
techniques you are endorsing are correct......learning classical for the sake of it
...dont know about that...thats hell of a learning curve

rest assured good teachers will always be sought after no matter how many
grey hairs they've got left..if any

No I don’t think it will affect now itself, but it's good to learn classic and start teaching classic. It will be last longer than teaching these styles.

Re: Stupid Question Maybe...

so 43 ish, now, eh,  and teaching.... get over it !  I'm 64 !!! and been playing ( learning ) for the last couple o years.  I play a bit typical Spanish, Malaguena, Rock n Roll and all kinds o stuff.  The guy I was having lessons from had 2 guys in their 80's playing all knds of things.  As long as You can Play, and Teach others, age to me is No Brainer, in fact its probably an advantage I woud have thought ???
