Topic: Guitar and Bodybuilding

Hey guys

You might know im new to the site and playing guitar. Bodybuilding and strongman have been a strong passion of mine now for a few years. Ive been playing guitar foe about 3 months and already this is turning into another passion. I just had a quick google search on the two subjects together and seen a few people say bodybuilding makes its hard to play guitar?

I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this? Im not prepared to stop it but then again i dont find it any more difficult to play as im used to being more hevaily muscled than if id started bodybuilding after the guitar. I love both and its easy enough to combine the two for me personally.

Any thoughts? Cheers

If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them...

I can't see why it would make it any harder unless your hands are fatigued to the point that you loose some of the dexterity.

I wouldn't worry about it at all - its working for you so far so no need to even think about changing anything!

Re: Guitar and Bodybuilding

I do push-ups and fingertip push-ups and my fingers are still very loose and I'm getting up there in age.

Actually I notice if I drink green tea, drinking it really loosens me up a lot when I play for hours at a time

Good tip John thank you, plus green tea is good for weight loss.

I do the pint press.

Lift pint to mouth and down again to bar, its bloody hard work, but it keeps you fit?

You have to remember to swap arms or one will be bigger than other.

I would do it for hours but the wife wont let me!!!

Being from the Green Island I am obviously biased. My late Father used to work for Guinness up in Belfast, so I had a very emotional trip to the Dublin Bewry last year just after his death. My wife contacted Guiness shortly sfter our visit to say how much we enjoyed ourselves and to tell them about my dad. (He retired back in the 80's). To our surprise they replied with an invite to come back and have a private tour of the archives! I was very touched. Unfortuntely I have not had a chance to return but hopefully soon.
