<t>No backing tracks.Just relentless practising. It does get boring and frustrating at first, but it gets more enjoyable when you start getting the scales into memory.I am assured that you have to be bored, before it gets better, which is the case in most things. But i am enjoying it.<br/>

<t>The only bit of advice i have from taking lessons is this.My teacher said you need to read music, and try to structure the music so it flows.I am not familiar with much of the fretboard, but try to keep all the notes close and not from one end of the fretboard to the other, continually, as it ...

<t>The only reason i suggested lessons, is because you had a £500 budget, which would get you a decent guitar, amp and money left over for lessons. Plus from a personal perspective, i am easily distracted, so a teacher has given me focus and direction. I was lucky, as i have a freind who goes to him ...

<t>Lots of people teach themselves. So yes, it is a possibility. I got lessons and i am glad i did.I have a structure, the tutor shows you how t play scales and read music and points you in the right direction if you go wrong.it is better to eliminate bad habits before they start in my opinion. But ...

Thanks for the reply.Sometimes, you read some stuff on other sites, and it can get quite condescending between guitarists and Bass players, so you don`t always get a sensible straight answer. At least i can still use the amp i have.Perhaps i will sell it and use the money to buy a bass amp.

Bass amps and blowing mine up

<t>I have a Marshall amp that i bought a few years ago for a guitar i bought.I now have a bass, and from what i have read, the opinion is divided as to whether i can play my bass through this amp without blowing it up.Now bear in mind i am learning so i dont want to embarress myself by having it too ...
