Just thought Id post to see if anyone has encountered Vanquish guitars?

They are built to specification, in Cambridgeshire, not far from where I live. I met the guy who runs the firm, Adrian Hardman yesterday and he kindly let me try a few guitars including the Custom and Classic. Its great to know that there are still firms like this in England, still manufacturing quality instruments at not excessive (from £2350 including case) prices. They compete well with imports (eg PRS, Gibson etc) on price and mostly beat them on quality.

I think Guitarist Mag has had a few for review and given them their Choice award. We need to support guys like this with our next top end purchase and bring manufacturing back to this country!

Recent revelation was the Electro Harmonix Worm Modulation pedal. Loads of analog modualtion effects including Wah, Phase, Vibrato and Tremolo. You can connect up an expression pedal to change parameters dynamically. Nice bit of kit with plenty of analog vintage vibe.

Other than that I just use an EHX LPB1 to boost my Marshall Artist Combo a bit when the drummer gets too loud  default/yikes

What effects do you use in your rig and what pedals have yu got that you simply do not use?

Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 / 24 all the way. Hard tail or trem, you cant beat them. More curves than a page 3 model (and probably slightly more intelligent  default/big_smile )

The SE models are nice too but dont quite have it in the sexy, sexy stakes.

Do you like LP,SG, Semi, Strat, or Tele.

Or any other shape that is out there and why.

Would agree on the price, for a Chinese made pedal but Blackstar have got it sown up (as you probably know  default/wink  )

Better be careful. There may be Blackstar spies about. default/cool

Sound and Build Quality is good, but the problem is, I tried a Krank Distortius Maximus Pedal years ago and found the Blackstar pedal wanting, compared to it.  You can hear the sonic and tonal difference...it's not quite as extreme and breaks up.  For less metal saturation it does well.  I prefer the amp sounds that I can get from the Blackstar itself, especially using the shape buttons.  By the way I am a Blackstar dealer as well.  Their HT Pedals are okay but I think they are about 40.00 too high.

I had an RC20 Boss pedal and yes it was a great bit of kit. I say "was" because one day I switched it on - 3 months out of warranty - and it worked no more. It just made a hissing noise that did bear some resemblance to my guitar playing  default/big_smile but wasnt quite what I was after.

Anyway that was £180 down the drain. When I can afford it Im going for the Digitech pedal instead.

A few of my private student's have this and it's awesome!!
Really great practice tool, especially for working on your
lead and improvisation.

Anyone else ever try it?

Was going through this site and found it :-)

I think most of you know it, but I want to post it  in the "favorite guitar site"

Let me know your opinion on sound and build quality for these pedals? Prices seem quite high, for example the HT-DUAL is nearly as much as an HT-1 practice amp.

They do look good for recording DI'ed into a desk or live into a PA though.

Hi guys

I learnt a basic pentatonic scale on A chord and just wondered how easy it would be to create a mini solo from this? I have started going through the scale and move up and down the strings and add a little bending etc. Any ideas?

Try adding the b5 and then bend it upto the 5 note of the scale for making it a bit more bluesy. Also learn the other four pentatonic shapes and extend your lead breaks into these. Be able to look at the neck in these terms. It takes a while but will break you out of that first pentatonic minor shape that quickly gets a bit stale.

Anyone else played them?  For the money and being all tube they are some of the best Ive played in their price ranges.  Their cleans are boutique level clean.  And their versatility on the high gain channels are really nice.  My new live rig for the electric is a Blackstar Stage 60 2x12 and the footswitch.  No effects, nothing...and it sounds incredible.  My largest show, was a 7000 person one a few months back, and I was playing my Rev through it and it just sliced through the crowd with an angelic tone!

Ive got a Blackstar HT-5S. Build quality and sounds are awesome. Its no live rig but mic it up and I dont see why it couldnt be. The ISF feature is very useable to change the overdrive characteristic and the EQ works well. Ive done a review at http://www.gtrmusic.co.uk/blackstar-ht5 … views_id=1

Of course the message is to use a metronome... it is crucial for every musician, especially drummers, bass  and guitar players.

Using a metronome is good and my playing always improves but why is it my brain tries to fight me every time I go near it? I bought a shiny black mechanical metronome last year and it stares at me when I enter the room, like a malovolent force whispering in my ear.   default/yikes

Well, New Year is here and I shall make friends with it again as part of my resolutions....

What was your first guitar, did it nearly put you off playing (presumably not totally  default/neutral ) and do you still have it?

Mine was a black Westone (I think - it was a long, long time ago  default/roll ) with 2 cream humbuckers for about £65. I sold it to fund a Jap Squier Strat in red with maple neck. This was late 1980's.
