Topic: Schecter Damien Special
I bought this about 6 months ago, then I could keep it in drop D, as the ESP's floyd rose meant changing tunings was a complete pain. I'd heard good things about the Schecters, and originally started off looking at the Omen, or Damien, these had basswood bodies, but they seemed to sound a bit feeble after the ESP, as I think they had diamond pickups. Then I saw the Special....
Its got a mahogany body, with a quilted maple top, rosewood fretboard, 24 frets, and EMG HZ humbuckers. Oh and it is a hard tail too
The picture doesn't do the colour justice - its called "vampire moon" and is a dark red, with black running through it - sounds awful, but looks nice in the flesh.
It does actually play more smoothly than the ESP, although my criticism of it, is that I find the neck a bit thick - after the ultra thin ESP, but when I held a telecaster, it seems narrower than that.
I had decided to sell it, as I was using the ESP all the time, but picked it up to tune it before a friend came round to jam the other night - and decided I liked it again.. So its staying for the moment...
