As I mentioned in a previous post, I do not play live and never really have done.
I don't like playing that much in front of people, and if I think I will have to then I generally do not play that well and my nerves can build up days before I have to play which makes the whole episode rather unenjoyable.
I am pretty sure that once I got used to playing live I would enjoy it but maybe that will be in a couple of years!
So have you ever had stage fright or experienced similar? Do you still get nervous when gigging?
Stage Fright
bin playing for yonks but still get anxious at start of gig....its just getting over the first number knowing all the kit is working...a couple of beers first works wonders ( but not p*ss*d )
after the 1st number its a great feeling,,,you've got to go for it theres nothing better

how many is there on the forum still playing in 5 piece bands regularly and making money i wonder
the whole local scene is diminishing due to the irresponsible behaviour of government policy
concerning alchohol prices and smoking restrictions...ruined the working mans social life in my opinion
ive been on the other side of the microphone and seen it all crumble .. its a mess and a disgrace
shame on these people..what do other people think?

you mean you are not allowed to smoke in the bars there
that must be a bummer to have a drink, listen to live music and can't have a smoke

I'm in two minds about the smoking ban. I quit a couple of years after the ban came in (in Scotland) but I had stopped going to the pub; I couldn't imagine going to the pub and not smoking (and I think it looks awful seeing loads of people standing outside pubs smoking).
On the other hand we need to weigh that against the potential health benefits and reduced costs on the health service. I think it will be a few years before we know what sort of impact it has had.
But I can totally see where you're coming from Polyal, the pub is the cornerstone of British social life and the smoking ban changed it significantly.

if your playing in a small pub with say 30 or 40 people in ..after a couple of numbers all of a sudden half of them disappear...yes they,re all outside smoking...it really p****es me off and everbody else including the
smokers..i agree something has to be done about smoking but not in the petty blanket indoor ban thats been implemented...why dont they go the whole hog and make alcohol and nicotine illegal substances

I gave up smoking a few years back now.
When I go up the pub now I get abandoned when everyone goes outside!
I do not agree with a blanket ban though. It is good that family places are not filled with smoke but pubs and clubs? It is crazy. Clearly the population agrees as it is not the case that more people have started going to pubs and clubs because they are smoke free - it is the opposite!

a pub is a place where you go of your own accord.. if you dont like people smoking..simple. dont go
i think ordinary joe bloggs though isnt bothered.... it down to the d!ck heads running the country once again
im a none smoker and all this is very debatable but its definately screwed the traditional pub

Do you play out live any more? I guess it is good as a guitarist that you can choose to not take centre stage if you don't want!Zelig wrote:I used to play live for small audiences in the past.
