Which Guage String do you use?

Post by olly »

I use 9s -

I love how light 8s are but you lose too much tone. I love the tone of 10s but they are not so nice to play. 9s are a happy medium for me.

I like the thinner ones but I do know what you mean about the losing of tone with the lighter strings. Therefore I would agree with you that the 9s are probably the best if you like soloing like I do!

I use 9's because 8's are to light for me, I snap em' to easy. 10's are a little heavy, so I too think 9's are a happy medium :)

For me sometime I use 9'sand sometimes 10's as I have 2 guitar now ( :)) which I use according to the type of song that we practice. But Generally I stick with 9's which is normal for me.

Although 10's are heavier but they are fun to use. Less than 8's are very loose so I prefer 9's and 10's.

For acoustic guitar I use steel strings. They are best for the acoustic guitars and the sound they make is excellent. Nylon string is recommended for the beginners but I don’t like its sound.

i use both 9 and 8,, 8 is so light and i feel so good while i play on it,very good for bends.
if any one plays a music where u need quick and nice bends i suggest 8, really nice

i'm on 11s

been moving up for some time - I started on 8s. Many older guitars were designed for thicker strings (even 12s) and will sound so much better with thicker strings. Yes, bending requires more attention (its still quite possible) but tone is far superior.

I will never go lighter!

Now I have never used strings this heavy but I would think that using this gauge string would actually limit what you can play.

I mean I would doubt you could do a 3 fret bend with 12s- perhaps I am wrong but I assume it would be nearly impossible because of the tension of the string.

I use 10s on my semi acoustic, I would use 10s If I downtuned. I would like to think I could play the same with 10s and improve the tone but the ease of the 9s is worth to much to compromise on vibrato, bends or other specialised techniques.
