Post by holyguitar »

It is almost a dream and everyone has his own favorite star. We have fastest and best guitarist here then why not favorite? Who is your favorite guitarist which has amazed you most? I am not going to disclose it yet, I shall like to hear something from you first :P

Well I honestly dont know who my favorite, favorite guitarist is, but here are some contenders:

Alex Lifeson (Rush)
Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever (Coheed and Cambria)
Herman Li and Sam Totman (Dragonforce)
Eric Clapton
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Brian Kahanek
Eddie Van Halen

Those would have to be my favorites!

No one seems to mentioned his name here... :(
yes, there's a lot shredder out there.
Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Slash, Eric Johnson, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Al di Meola, Eric Clapton, Sambora, Ritchie Blackmore, Randy Roads,Michael Angelo, Petrucci,Paul Gilbert, John Mclaughlin, etc..

but for me, though there's all shred, they do not posses a soul like my favourite guitarist. who?
Carlos Santana with his Crying Lady!
hail Santana!

I go for more of the acoustic finger style of playing. Which makes my favorite players Tommy Emmanuel and Kieran Murphy. Kieran Murphy still has some room to go far and I think he will just get better and better.

The thing that I like so much about Tommy Emmanuel is the passion in which he plays his guitar and his ability to play all different styles of music.

Obviously Hendrix. Listen to villanova junction, live at woodstock. Yeah, its scrappy in places, but its got SOUL that too many guitarists just replace with speed.

Another fave is Jeff Beck. Listen to 'let me love you' from Truth. The intro is amazing. Once again, no super-fast-for-the-sake-of-it licks, just a feeling and vibe that is simply fantastic. Pretty tricky getting all those bends to sound right, I can tell you

And what about George Benson... ok I don't like everything hes done, but do you know his version of summertime... Beautiful playing

Being a Slide or Dobro guitar player my favorite guitarists are also slide guitar players which are very popular in blues music and country music these days.
So, my favorite guitarists are Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Ry Cooder, George Harrison, Bonnie Raitt, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Duane Allman, Muddy Waters and Rory Gallagher.

Really, anyone that can pick and strum the guitar that makes beautiful music.

For rock it would have to be Jeff Beck

For others it would have to be Roy Clark, Les Paul and all the great country guitar pickers out there. Here are a few:

Flatt & Scruggs @ Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Jerry Byrd @ Panhandle Rag
Tom & Jerry @ Golden Wildwood Flower
Tommy Jackson @ Cotton-Eyed Joe
Del Wood @ Down Yonder
The Stanley Brothers @ Orange Blossom Special
Buck Ryan @ Beaumont Rag
Walter Haynes @ Crawdad Song
Bill Wimberly @ Ragtime Annie
Louisiana Hayride Gang @ Hayride Rag
my lyrics, my guitar and my imagination
