I suggest you go for the Vintage AV1H. In my experience, Vintage always delivers top quaility guitars in a reasonable price range. My favourite cheap brand by far.
Also for Amps, the JE-20 (http://sales-matrix.co.uk/shop/article_ ... S09007G%26) is a very good amp for practicing with and starting off, but if you want to move on to pedals, then i suggest shelling out for something bigger.

I started with a lovely Squire Affinity strat From Dolphin.co.uk. With a VOX amp, they were very helpful on the phone about everything. I told them what I wanted, and at what price, and 2 days later , it was here. They threw in a lead and a handful of medium plecs. I would recommend them, tell them what you would like. If you like LES Pauls, Gibsons Strats or Teles, get one to learn on. You will learn a whole lot better.
I them went onto Ebay, onto Stratosphere, and put together a really nice strat. This taught me how to put the guitar together, tune it, atc. great fun. you gan make a £700 Fender strat for about £350-£400. Just buy the right bits, I bought the wrong neck first, but that will keep for the next project. Do remember that the big stuff, Loaded bodies and necks do have inport duty to pay into he UK.
