Just signed up to this site. I'm one of those bass players who also love playing guitars - played in a few 'fun' bands on guitar and have accumulated far too much gear over the years

hi al...welcome to the forum..do you get blamed for any cockups
we always pointed at the bass player if any clangers happened on stage
even if it was in a drum solo

Of course. The worse thing I did was to cause the singers car not to start making her late for a gig - and I was 30 miles away!
