Guitar tone

Hi , need some help with achieving the tone Mark Knopfler got with his Knocking on Heavens door with Ted Christopher.
I believe he used a special guitar with an expensive computer cobbled up together. I would have thought it would be possible to produce a similar tone with decent amp and effects box. Problem I have is that I dont have a clue.
I have a Marshall 100 combi and a Line6 150 Spider a Zoom G5 and a Pod2.
Would have thought some of you enthusiasts would have some idea. Would be grateful for some help.
