taking your thoughts and writing a song
As I pick up the guitar and decide to write lyrics for a new song, my thoughts need to connect with something that is in me. I call it "the lyrics need to have a home in your heart". You see when I do this the words can now easily connect with a picture of my thoughts that my mind/emotions are to express myself with.

How do you even begin with your lyrics? What do you first write down?
I think for me it just comes down with a split second though that I connect with. And within that thought I usually see a title. Using a title first gives me direction and keeps me focus on how I want to work my thoughts thoughout the song. I always write the lyrics as I strum , that way I can get the syllables to match the strumming patterns. Also I never start a new song till the one I'm working on is finished. But of course rewrites are a common practice of mine.

Nothing specific. I have had limited time the last few weeks and the time I have had, I been experimenting with my guitar sound and getting used to using MIDI.
I regularly think of starting writing lyrics but it never happens. I guess that just thinking about it isn't going to get me too far! I really need to set some time aside and force myself to write, no matter how bad it may seem!
