I am wondering anyone knows the answer to this.

On my Cubase I am using a couple of plugins for my guitar. When I want to add another guitar part I duplicate the track. I have then got two instances of the same plugins running.

I know there is a way that I can have one set of plugins for both tracks to use. I understood this to be a send rather than the insert that I am currently using. I checked sends option but it wasn't clear on how to set this up.

I also have the ability to add a track called an FX track - perhaps it is this? If not, what are these FX tracks for.

create a group track ( stereo ) and route the 2 guitar tracks the that group ( in the inspector..the info on the left hand side) insert the plugin on the group track.. it will be applied
to both git channels..you can also pan L or R via the individual channel
if you add an fx track...use the channel ' sends ' to apply the effect...that way every channel can use one fx ( ..but with a common setting )

ps dont worry about duplicating plugins you can use as many as you like

Thanks for the advice - so above you have mentioned two possible ways of doing this.

Are there any differences (other than, if I understand you correctly, the ability to pan individual tracks?) in doing it as a group or FX channel in this instance or will the result be identical?

I am glad you have mentioned groups as this was another thing I did not understand but trying to take everything one step at a time!

if you use a plugin on a channel it is only that channel that the plugin effects
if you use an fx channel ...then the send of every individual channel will access that fx..the more you turn up the send on a channel..the more will be processed and you will hear in the mix.... ..the difference is .. if its a repeat echo then everything using it will have the same echo.. ie it is common...the same as a hardware mixer

I am a little stuck with this...

I have created a group track, I added the revalver MKII to the insert of the group.

I then created an audio channel and where it previously had "stereo out" I changed it to "group1"

I get sound but it looks like I am no longer sending to the premap (input) section of revalver and only to the power amp (output) which results in a crappy sound.

So maybe I am missing something here? Any ideas?

i tried each preamp separately and they all worked perfect
the top bit is just to get the initial input and output gains and has nothing to do with
any sounds

Oh ok, thanks. I will give it another go tonight.

When I tried it it sounded really different from when I had it as an inset on an independent track. I initially thought it might be the way it was routing it though when I saw no input level showing when it was on the group track I assumed this was why it sounded different.

I'll report back later this evening!

if you route the git channel to a group channel the signal path is automatic
but make sure you are getting a healthy signal into the group channel.....normalise the git track and set the volume at 0db ( automation track - this normally defaults to 0db )
you need to drive the revalver with a decent signal ( check the levels on the control module of the revalver )
they need to be around 0db

I gave this a go last night and it seemed to work ok. This time both the input and output levels were showing signal.

Not sure why this didn't happen before but at least it is working now so thanks!

Did you give Revalver a go when you downloaded it? What did you think?

downloaded revalver evaluation copy ( to see why you were having problems..glad you were now )....most of the sounds are really usable..well impressed
i use a zoom 9150 have been for the last 10 years..use it for gigging and recording....but i do like the revalver as a plugin

So when you are recording with your Zoom do you just plug directly into your PC with it or do you mic up an amp?

direct into a mixer (line i/p) ....the mixer goes to the computer...everthing recorded to cubase goes via the mixer...found this the most versatile way as any aux sound ( inc mics /television/radio/other computers ) have their own channels and can be recorded on the fly with no other setting up
