A new song. What do you think?

Post by Zelig »

Hi everyone,
This is a song I composed and performed with a Swedish singer. It's a rehearsal of a song we will record soon with very different arrangements.
Feedback is more than welcome.
Thanks

is that a seagull guitar

nice tune

I think a bit more background music would go well on that tune
my lyrics, my guitar and my imagination

It is a really nice song and great guitar playing there.

How did you go about writing this song? I am always interested to know how a song begins - was it the guitar? the melody the lyrics?

I look forward to hearing the finished track with the new arrangement!

Thanks for your nice comments.
Yes Watermelon, it's a Seagull. Oddly, in my hands , it sounded better than a Martin or a Taylor,
which would have cost twice the price. Lucky me! And I think you might be right for the background, but I didn't mix this sound so I just accepted it.

Olly, I always start with the music only and the lyrics come afterwards. The other way around is impossible for me. I had the first two bars with the little chromatic part in mind for a while
and when I took the guitar the complete first part came to me very easily. I spent more time finding the slower part as my first ideas were nothing but common melodies. As a result I ended up
working really hard to find something
more original.
And thanks for doing this forum. That's admirable to be a site administrator!

Thanks for your kind words.

That is really interesting to hear your approach. Do you have other songs that you have written or other songs in production right now?

Well, I composed and recorded about fourty songs a few years ago. Some of them I still like, but I stopped music for a while and now it’s a new start for me. So I prefer not to talk about the past. I still have an «old» song on the internet that you can find here:

You can criticize it.
And Yes, I’m working on several songs nowadays. I’ll come back here in search of your precious opinion for that, dear colleagues. In the meanwhile, if you are a facebook kind of person, you can follow my work and my band here:

So now you are making your new start what are you changing about your style and/or approach to writing?

do you think have some years off from writing has helped you start with a fresh approach or made it harder to get back into it?

Good work there and thanks for being a part of this forum!

Olly,

I can’t say if it’s easier or more difficult now. It’s just different. It’s easier because I’m better (not good, just better). And I know how to deal with certain things. But it’s more difficult because I’m more demanding and I’m constantly trying to improve. So yes, it has changed. To mention one example I try to find some more unexpected melodies (the B and C part of Space trip). At the beginning, I was just happy with any melody.

I really salute people who can write their own song. Lucky you, you're a singer and a song writer too. Anyways do you have a fan page on facebook? because if you have I will subscribe to it.

Hi Johnny,
Thank you for your nice comment. We just started a facebook fan page three days ago. My Band is called Nil Aramis.

I haven’t had any time to advertise for it because of the long week end we have had here, so you will be our first fan. We are so pleased. Thanks again!

Thank you Eric,
I have listened to your music and I must say that you are such a brilliant guitar player. I don't understand how you do it and the sound of it is exquisite. Moreover, I love the rythm you put into it.
I should definitely follow your lessons.
