Topic: My first lesson

Just had my first lesson.Very interesting. This is my homework for this week,
Arpeggios in A Major, D Major,A Minor and D Minor.
Petatonic Minor Scale in A and D
A Blues and D Blues.

Walking finger technique with a G , A ,B ,C , then an eercise with all of the notes together in a 4/4 beat
He drew some diagrams for me, so if anyone is interested i will scan them, and post them

Oh yes Polyal, i nearly forgot, he made me use my pinky a lot default/big_smile
Another thing i forgot to mention. He will only teach people to read music. He will never show anyone how to play tabs, because if you can read music, there is no need for tabs.Tabs will never teach you improvisation. That is what he said anyway

Re: My first lesson

good start then...now its the main three things....PRACTICE  PRACTICE  PRACTICE
definitely learn to read music ....but also learn tab ..theres loads of stuff written in tab ( thats not in the dots )
if you learn both you've got the best of both worlds
its up to you now ..best of luck

Re: My first lesson

if the pinkie was to be shunned god would have given us 3 fingers
and if he did we could all have given him two fingers and said ' give me my pinkie back
and i promise to use it always...even if i'm doing my own thing

Hope they are clear enough as i had to go over it in black pen, as the pencil wasnt dark enough to scan

If you look at the Pentatonic Scale, you start at the 5th fret. The numbers correspond to your fingers. So you start with your first finger on string 4, then your fourth finger to fret 9, then back to finger 1 on string 3, then 3rd finger on string 3, back to first finger on 2nd string, to 3rd finger on second string. Then straight back to first finger on 2nd string , and just carry on backwards until you reach the 5th fret 4th string where you started from.Basically that is the same with all the scales.
Hope that is clear
