Topic: Transporting Your Amp - problems?

Hi guys,

I wanted to open a thread about transporting your amplifier - whether for repair or gigging purposes. I have previously taken delivery of two Fender Deluxe Reverbs (‘65 reissues), and they were both knackered on delivery.

I’m curious about the problem of transporting amps - if it is a problem at all - and wondered whether I should do something about it. Particularly interested in your answers to these questions:

How many times do you have to transport your amp every year?
How do you transport your amp - by car, courier etc.
What is the main reason you might transport your amp - for repair, for a gig etc.

If affirmative answers to the above:

How many times have you used a main courier service (FedEx, TNT etc) to transport your amp, and how many times have you transported by car?
How do you feel about transporting your amp using one of these courier services, and how do you feel about transporting it by car?
Have you ever had a bad experience with one of these courier services transporting your amp, or transporting your amp by car?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Re: Transporting Your Amp - problems?

transporting by carrier must be the worst thing that could happen to an amp.. esp a valve amp
unless its wrapped in a 12 foot' thick wrapper of cotton wool and bubble wrap
and encased in a cocoon of indestructible 3" carbon fibre
carriers have a terrible reputation for senseless handling of items

any other form of transport used responsibly shouldn't be an issue as long as its
not falling about or vibrating too much in transit

i shouldn't think many musos would use a carrier when gigging ( how would that work )
unless its hired by A gigging touring band

moral: if you MUST use a general purpose carrier get your items well insured

Re: Transporting Your Amp - problems?

Hey polyal - thanks for the reply and for confirming my suspicions about traditional carriers!

I suppose what I envision is a courier specifically for amps, ran by electrical engineers who knew how precious & fragile amps are. They could pick up your amp  and deliver it safely for you, take it to a repair shop if/when it starts to degrade over time, and potentially provide an 'Uber' like service for amps for small, gigging musicians.

Do you think this type of thing is worth building?

Re: Transporting Your Amp - problems?

advertise your idea....but theres not going to be many musos who need an amp repairing
+ i cant imagine an electrical engineer running a delivery service unless hes been sacked cause hes a
shit sparky.. pehaps uber might be persuaded to explore your concept and try the idea
they deliver pitzas undamaged now and again ♪♪
