Topic: Em

Hi guys

Does anyone know the name of this chord?

e--0
B--0
G--0
D--5
A--7
E--0

Its like Em but I'm using it in a song and its that we bit higher (obviously)

Thanks for at least the hope of finding an answer to this. I've searched a while with only brick walls,

It is played in the Metallica song interlude One, but the open strings are muted.

Cheers

Re: Em

Its em ...D@5(fret)=G   A@7=E....Its just duplicating the open g (D@5) and playing open E an ocive higher (A@7)
try playing D@9 instead of [email protected] a typical power chord ...if you mute strings 1,2,3 it can be either
E or Em

fingering   E string open    A string.. first finger @7th(E)        D string... third finger@9(B)

Re: Em

Thanks

Is it Em, an octave higher?  How is this denoted?  The same strings are pressed as Em but higher up the board ie strings A and D

Re: Em

Em is E/B/G no matter what string or position ( fret ) its played at....an octave higher or lower its still Em
there are many ways to play any chord
its the notes that make it the chord it is

if it a power chord sound you want play E(6th string) E(5th string 7th fret) B (4th string 9th fret)
you can play the rest open...or muted depending again on the feel etc

if you wanted to make it an E power chord you would have to make sure you didn't play the G open
since E maj would need it to be G#

Re: Em

Thanks

I dont need a power chord, I just want to clarify the name of this chord through logical means.  There is an added G, and the B has been diminished.

It's just off Em, that little bit higher.  A and D are played up the neck.  Would an em played from the 12th fret not be one octave higher?

I get what you mean about em being E/B/G, but some notes are more pronounced like G and some notes are less pronounced like B.

Is there an Inversion or can this chord be called G/E?

Re: Em

Back to your first post..the chord described here is Em
G/E is somewhere you dont want to be... Em/G maybe
its just Em......all the notes in Em are included     E/B/G
and the lowest note is 'E'

G is doubled by playing the 4th string @ the 5th fret
anothe E is added by playing the 5th string at the 7th fret

so your playing
E
E
G
G
B
E

if you ' pronounce'   ' accentuate '  or ' lessen ' note velocities
it doesn't change what  the chord is

what you're dealing with is 'voicing' playing the same chord at numerous positions
but maintaining the triad EBG (Em)

explore the CAGED system all this will eventually become clear

Re: Em

I am creating a music piece, a song......the said chord is falling onto an Em.  If I was to share this song in written form, I would need to distinguish the two sounds because I roll the strings from G/E to Em.

There is a distinction from the two chords.

And is not an octave higher, try playing it.......

Re: Em

if you want to express how to play your song you
need to do it via TAB

G/E is not the way

what is transpiring is that you're going from a Gmaj to an Em
Gmaj is G B D
Em is    G B E

IF you're writing a song get the chord structure sorted first
before you diverse into voicing

the only thing you've posted so far is an Em

Re: Em

Thanks

There is a name to that chord

G6/E

Song is written and ready for the studio

Re: Em

its Em
its also  G6(no5)/E  ( not G6/E )....G6 needs a D note
............Bsus4(#5)/E
and few more depending on what note on the Em chord
you want to use as the root note to base the name on

if i was you i'd call it Em esp if your going to write it down
and if you want it playing using that fingering explain the 'VOICING' to your session man
https://i.postimg.cc/kDDHSY05/Em-1.jpg
https://i.postimg.cc/WFz5Mtfy/Em.jpg

these are both the same chord but with different voicing
https://i.postimg.cc/yJMDTbfz/Em-txt.jpg

next time you want a git player to play Em
ask him to play Bsus4addb13(no5)/E......and watch the expression on his face
default/lol
