Topic: PC EQ question:

in graphic design, there is a technique (don't remember the designation) of making sure your monitor has the same color characteristics as your printer. Then one knows he/she is producing files that will print exactly as they appear.

That's what I need to do for sound in SONAR 6. If I have this in the wrong sub-forum, forgive me... it may not be a sonar issue but a PC soundcard issue.

When I plug my guitar FX processor into my digital audio input on my soundcard, I can then tweak my FX and guitar gear to get a sound that is pleasing to my ear. I am not mic-ing. This is direct.

Then, when I record onto some tracks using sonar (EQ on the tracks and Master Track is off), I get a similar sound, but with different frequency characteristics. Different Tone.

I know I can then use the EQ in Sonar to tweak it back to where I want it, but the quesiton is...

"Why is it different in the first place?"

I have my soundcard tweaking the EQ that I hear, but if that were the issue, shouldn't it be tweaking the playback of the recording just the same as the direct live signal?

Make sense? Let me know if there are any good articles out there...

Thank you!
