Topic: I Need A New Acoustic Guitar

I currently have one Yamaha acoustic guitar and a ovation rounded semi acoustic. The ovation is from the lower end of the range and you can really tell this from the tone and the quality of the components used. It does serve a purpose though.

The Yamaha is nice and seems to have got better with age however it is still pretty low end of the range.

I am now looking at buying something new that is a more professional instrument. I was hoping to spend around £300 on the new acoustic guitar.

Any recommendations? Do you think this budget is enough for something pretty decent or is it worth saving up a little more?

Re: I Need A New Acoustic Guitar

You should pick up a solid-top Ibanez or Aria or similar for this sort of money, I imagine, with a cut-away and pick-up, in most cases now with a built-in tuner as well.
The Chinese are producing some remarkable top of the line guitars now, and while the product names may be unfamilar to you they are far better value than Fender mid-range accoustics which are very disappointing.

Great - thanks for this. I will give a few a try and see which fits with me the best.

Don't know if you bought your guitar yet, but an S. Yairi made in Indonesia can be bought for about 300 bucks and the mahogany wood is so beautiful and the tone is very good too.

Actually I did buy myself an acoustic guitar. I got a Dean acoustic, well electro acoustic as it does have the pickup built in though I doubt I will use this much.

It looks nice and plays nice though I think I will be changing the strings to something a little lighter.

Changing the strings to 9 really help me out. I just don't care for the 10 on an acoustic. Most people say you lose a bit of tone, but with a pickup on it, I like what's coming out from have 9  and I think a 42 for the top

congrats on your new guitar too

Cheers - yes I currently have 12s on it! Ouch! Great sound but not versitile enough for my type of playing style.

I have a set of 11s to put on there which hopefully will give me more flexibility without losing tone.

I have previously played acoustics with 9s on though you can lose a lot of tone. However it depends on you objective really!

New guitar, new drum set, new studio . . . . have you come into a large inheritance of late? default/big_smile

Re: I Need A New Acoustic Guitar

Hi Mikey - no unfortunately not! The drum set is only a virtual plugin - still cost a bit but a worthy enough investment to stick on the plastic!

The studio is not really a studio as such, it is a cellar that I have lined with plasterboard to get the best soundproofing, had it plastered and then brought my accumulation of 15 years of equipment to set it up into some form of studio.

I can assure you that the image you may have in your head does not resemble what it really looks like! (perhaps I will post some pics!)

The guitar, well yes I wanted one for ages. I have always been an impulse buyer which is why I am in so much debt! I figured I waited long enough so I had to get one!

Fair enough!

Have you decided what you want yet?
