Topic: What a day I have had.

So Don't know if any one remembers, I have been looking for an amp know for quite some time. I have money saved for one which the wife spent default/mad , because me Dad offered to build me a hand wired Vox. Anyhow me Dad rang this morning and said that he had started to look at the Vox schematic he had and it would not work.

He went into a load of technical jargon but the up shot is the schematic is American and certain things would have to be changed and he couldn't guarantee he would change the right ones in order for it still to sound like a Vox.

So he has found a old Jennings schematic (Jennings designed and still own the original Vox AC design). However, this would take him longer to build as he would have to mock a lay-out the test it for current, not shore where he is gonna find currents in an amp default/tongue .

So off I go to PMT to buy an amp as I have just had a Tax rebate, nice.

I had a play about with a few and finally the penny dropped, the Blackstar HT 20 months and months of trying to decide and there it was. Great clean, head room a plenty, nice crunch, great overdrive which stayed well defined, effects loop, emulated out for headphones or recording and a master volume so I don't piss next door off.

So I explain to the sales lad I can leave £20 I am waiting for check to clear, what with bank holidays I can safely say I will be in Saturday 7th Jan but if my check clears any sooner I will come down then. So of we go to the sales counter deal done or so I thought.

Now would be a good time to take on board that in the last 18 months I have spent £1800 In PMT mostly on me Gibson but also my ESP, and some other bits including a line 6 Pod, Microphone, MXR micro Amp, and a  Boss sd1. And I am on first name terms with most of the staff.

So at the counter the manager says £20 deposit is not good enough it needs to be 10% which is £45. I think f*** you you twat, walk out as I could feel the light infantry man in me coming out.  On a side note I am knocking on a bit now have put on weight and probable would of got my head kicked in.

So I get back home ring the director who works in the PMT in South-end, he claims he  is too busy to talk to me, apologizes and puts the phone down.

Now I thinking that xmas eve, I will go down make out I want to buy Les Paul custom, they have two in there, drop it breaking the head stock as way of revenge. default/tongue

But the love of a Les Paul got the better of me So I scrapped that plan and placed me order at Dawsons, Who said that they would do it on a £10 deposit. All good, I feel better getting an amp to play which I like while I wait for me Dad to build the Vox.

Then Disaster PMT ring, Simon the director as phoned the Leeds branch, found out whats gone on and said to the manager to accept my £20 deposit. The sales lad then rang me to tell me. I explain what I have done with Dawson's apologize to him and promise to drop him a McDonald's in, as none of this was his doing and he had spent 2 hours with me.

So I ring the Director back who assumes I am gonna be happy and I say I am not he the says Mr Duckworth, which I hate, ring me back on Tuesday I am busy and once again put the phone down.

I have to give him the benefit of the doubt because he did look into my first complaint today when I thought he just brushed me off.

So been the half Yorkshire/Lancashire man I am, I sniff a good deal , I e-mailed the director a list of what I want to buy and I feel a discount coming or a straight f*** off.

I will let you know what happens.

What do you think, should I go with Dawson's or take the deal, if I get offered one from PMT.

Re: What a day I have had.

I guess see what discount you get offered but if not substantial spend your money elsewhere.

Nice choice on the amp. I have the 1w and I am pleased with the tone though mine is lacking the effects loop which is a negative for me.

Re: What a day I have had.

Nightmare!  I agree with Olly, see what they come back with, but on the other hand, would you loose your deposit at Dawson's if you pulled out?

Re: What a day I have had.

Well with a name like PMT, dont expect consistent service. Id go for the shop who deserves the custom, in this case Dawsons all the way.

Re: What a day I have had.

Well its been a week and no reply from PMT, so it looks like Dawsons.

PMT have a bad business Model, into days market of Internet shopping, removing the customer from the market should be a retailers NO.1 priority.

Silly Silly Boys.

Re: What a day I have had.

Hmm - yes this is sometimes the problem with the chains, they seem to loose all concept of personal service...

Mind you that said, one of local independent guitar shops who does also sell a lot of stuff on ebay, had the the schecter damien elite in which I wanted (this was before I got the special) and it was the same price in the shop as it was on ebay with free shipping, so I asked for a discount - bearing in mind that they had ebay / paypal fees & shipping costs, for a cash purchase in the shop, and they refused to knock anything off!

Think the guitar was about £460, if they'd have taken £10 off I'd have had it...

When I got my ESP from an independent, it was already reduced, and they knocked a further £60 off when I asked for a discount...

Re: What a day I have had.

The moral of the story; Always ask for a discount.

Regarding the Schectcher, some people have no brains what so ever.
