Amplitube Fender, Line 6 UX2 and Reaper DAW

Windows 7, 4gb ram, 500 gig hard drive.

I am attempting to record my guitar, however, I am getting sound break up when I turn up the gain in amplitube.. I have read about buffers but I am at a loss for what is best and where to start.....

If I just use the Line 6 UX2 as the sound card I am unable to control the recording volume, and just have a mass of clipping. Yet if I turn the volume down on the guitar it clears this up but the sound I want goes....

Then if I turn on the Line 6 Pod farm I can remove amps and effects and run in as a dry signal but it still adds a degree of amplification and spoils the over sound I want to record....but I can control the recording volume.

Any help would be very helpful I have been trying to sort this for two weeks.....

not familiar with your set up. but basically the first thing is to get the sound you want..
then record at a non clipping level....this should be attainable by adjusting the input gain to
your DAW ( ie record level )most DAW's have a mixer record channel strip ..so turn the incoming signal
down here ...if the guitar modules have output  attenuation ( volume ) back them off
a bit also ( not to be confused with input levels )

looking at the manual you can definately turn down the incoming signal via reapers record
channel strip...but try to lose a bit coming from your guitar set up first

dont forget once you have got your guitar sound right DON'T adjust any inputs to your
guit setup

TIP: Many models within POD Farm 2 are capable of adding a significant amount of gain to your input
signal, such as amps, distortions, compressors, etc. When using these type of models it is advised to adjust their individual “volume” and “gain” knobs to avoid boosting the output signal too high. Watch the Master Output meter and make sure it never indicates clipping. The Master Output knob can also be used to fine tune the POD Farm 2 main output level.

Cheers poly,,

I have sorted recording volume out.

But the break up is still their. I now its down to some thing with the computer as I can record my Blackstar, emulated out with no breakup. 


Gonna try and mess with the buffers bit rate......Any advise?????

You're nearly ready to start making music with REAPER! Before you do, though, you should take a few moments to read this section, which deals with the not uncommon problem of unwanted pops and clicks being heard when you play back your music. This is a computer issue rather than a REAPER specific issue, and is generally less likely to occur with a Mac than with a PC.
If you encounter the sound of unwanted pops and clicks when you play back a song in REAPER, then most probably all it means is that your audio device settings are not right for your computer. As a quick fix, try adjusting the block size (Preferences, Audio, Device), starting at 128 and working up thru, 256, 512, 768 or 1012 to find the lowest setting for your system at which you can play back your music without any pops or clicks getting in the way
If you do encounter this problem, you should also read Chapter 19.4 to learn more about this topic.

so:
raising the buffer size ( increasing the latency ) will probably sort the breaking up of the audio
the only prob is ..if you monitor directly off the computer..you will start to get a slight  delay
( latency ) which will frustrate your playing...but you must get the buffer size right first

I have downloaded the reaper Manual but never read that.
