I have recently started getting into this band and the track The Air that I breath is one of the most amazing tracks I have ever heard in my life.

The guitaring is somewhat basic but I feel the rhythm and the whole melody is amazing if you like heavy metal with a tune!

I like the thinner ones but I do know what you mean about the losing of tone with the lighter strings. Therefore I would agree with you that the 9s are probably the best if you like soloing like I do!
