a noise gate is used to cut noise from aggressive processing ( esp compression )when there is NO SIGNAL
ie hiss and RF interference etc ...it is not supposed to be a fix for inherently faulty equipment
a noise gate will not shift hum or buzzing or whatever if it can be heard with the normal signal from the outset

hi lachlan
just to put you in at the deep end...and being a guitar tutor..
would you advise a left handed absolute beginner
to start on a left handed guitar ..and if so why

yeh nice one
the screws should be a flush fit with the holes on the body so the neck
can only sit in one place..the new screws are probably a smaller diameter
so the neck would have to be aligned before tightening
+the neck could drift if knocked etc

(4 replies, posted in Guitars)

its not the nut..its the alignment of the neck ( relative to the bridge )

slacken the screws that hold the neck on about 1/2 a turn
hold the guitar... pull  the headstock up until the strings are
central relative to  the fingerboard ( this will only be mm ) .. tighten up the
screws

in a nut shell:
with the git facing you make the body rigid and move the headstock slightly
to the left or right until the strings are centered

is it the guitar or the amp?
plug your git into another amp
from that you should be able to tell which is causing the problem
if its bin done professionally the wiring should be ok??
also try different guitar leads

i had to change to humbuckers for recording at home because of the noise single coil
pup's generated in the proximity of my computers
( does it disappear if you you move the git around )
try your setup in a different location

you shouldn't have to go to extremes to  get a clean signal
a good signal ground though is top priority

+try grounding  the metal bridge
mains powered footswitches can also cause noise via earth loops

are you getting a buzz or a hum or both?

always put your tuner first so it gets a clean signal straight from the guitar
the rest is subjective ..if you use one pedal at a time it doesn't matter..
is there a reason you have got them in this order?
i dont use footpedals to this extent ( just tuner +zoom9150 rack processor ) ) ..hate to think wots going into the amp if you have them all running at the same time

if you get ten replies to your question they would probably be all different
like i said just make sure your tuner's first and then the rest to taste
most footpedals are designed to work with a clean signal so putting a heavily distorted sound
into a blues driver wont give the intended results...but theres no rules whatsoever

...so..if you like bacon and egg on sponge cake ..get it down ya!
♪rock on♪

very nice blend of light and shade...top draw
nice to see ' sensible ' with a bit of credible shred
get some sexy bird with a good voice + collaboration and who knows
rock on

ps original songs only ...know wot i mean arry..nudge nudge

yeh thats good and refreshing ..i'm not a classical git player but theres hell of a lot of work gone into that
thats obvious ...well done
notice you use a thumbpick ( not so common for classical )  ...how long is it ?
i use a thumbpleck ( an hybrid thumbpick/plectrum ) so i can do normal picking and finger style with the same
piece of plastic
http://s7.postimg.org/kfn5umuuv/Picture.jpg
its more versitile than  hybrid picking because the index finger can be used for picking
instead of holding the plec

get some new valves for spares but if it aint broke dont fix it ( IMO )
if you like the sound ( which sounds pretty good to me ) stick with it
+if you do change them you might get a slightly different sound but it wont be any better ( wots better )
its all subjective at the end of the day
if a valve fails / goes noisy then a new one would be required
it seems the  " recommended "  'life span' of a valve is 2years but this is by the manufacturers ..and they would say that
wouldn't they
i have a marshall 50w top ( 70's ) which still sounds great and i cant remember it ever having new valves
or a service..tut tut ( perhaps theres a few more watts i could squeeze out of it...which i dont need )

if you got new valves you could do a comparison test to see the difference

i suppose with effects its all a matter of preference concerning the order and settings but i
would put the tuner first..then you can always do a retune without turning any other
pedals off ( esp chorus )
the rating of the psu ( amps ) should be more than the sum of the plugged pedals
ie if each pedal is say consuming 100ma
then you can plug 10 into a 1 amp psu ...( absolute max )
if you ran 5 pedals it would run a lot cooler
if you ran 11 pedals it would overheat or blow a fuse

+depending on the psu each o/p might have its own rating which
could also be adjustable..read the psu manual

these are a few examples
Dunlop 105Q bass wah – 10mA
Boss DD-5 digital delay – 57mA
Boss GEB-7 bass EQ – 17mA
Crowther Audio Hot Cake – 3mA
Crowther Audio Prunes & Custard – 5mA
Digitech X-Series bass synth wah – 84mA
Boss LMB-3 bass limiter/enhancer – 14mA
TC Electronic Polytune Mini – 45mA
Line 6 Relay G30 receiver – 143mA
Orchid Electronics Micro DI – 3mA

use flexible 2 way multistrand cable ( not solid core ) for your leads
doesnt have to be overkill ..similar to low voltage wall wart wire

dont let anybody tell you silver wire @ $50 a meter will give you a better sound
its all BS

the git sounds nice on the utube clip whats that going through?

some other pedals

hi cariad
1st thing get a new set of strings
then get your guitar checked out so its playable esp the 'action'
get 1 to 1 lessons with a reputable teacher to push you in the right direction
regarding technique and practice regimes

there are some excellent vids on youtube

but
be careful.. if you want to replicate any vids that are posted
let your teacher check them out to make sure they're not encouraging bad habits

is there a serial/model number anywhere ..looks like it could be worth a bit
it might be a tsb59 ( gibson335 copy )so its probably worth £200+ easy
put it on ebay for £400 and see what offers you get if theres no response keep dropping the price now and again
if you sell it within 30secs somebody knows to much...but thats the risk

you could always ask your local guitar shop what he would allow you p.ex
on another instrument

hi jtb
'action' generally means the height of the strings from the fretboard
you measured 1/8 for the first string ( top of fret to bottom of string )at the 11th fret
This measurement is usually done @ the 12th fret when making comparisons

an electric guitar usually has a lower action than an acoustic but its all a matter of taste
The lower the action the more chance of fret buzz/rattle..but easier to play ( less pressure to fret a string )and visa versa

experience will steer you to how you prefer it but i think ( personally )3/16 is a bit high
for any string

google these issues : nut break point height ( height of sting over 1st fret )
: neck relief ( concave bend of the fretboard )
: choice of gauge of string ( which will determine neck relief )
: action ( general feel of the height over the whole fingerboard )
this can be acheived by altering the height of the bridge after all the other adjustments
: intonation ( the scale length of each individual string )
this is not normally possible on an acoustic..see the differences between an 'electic bridge' and an 'acoustic bridge'
all these variables ( and adjustments ) are within the capabilities of anyone with slight
DIY tendencies but google  ( youtube esp ) for more detailed explanations

if anything is not clear please post

UPDATE: this guitar is still in tune after 11 months...AWESOME!!!
