Re: Problems when playing standing up. (3 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
I can relate to your pain. Feel free to check my lesson on playing the guitar standing and how to adjust the straps properly. Here at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui7Agkakkzc
Good Luck, and feel free to PM me if you need more help

Hi, first post here.
When I'm sitting down I reckon I'm an alright guitarist...but when I play standing up I'm absolutely awful. The first problem is picking. If the guitar is tilted at all upwards, the pick scrapes the string, and it's hard to play fast, and sometimes the scrape comes through on the amp.
The second is stretching my fingers. I just absolutely cannot stretch my fingers on the deepest few strings. On the E string I can't even fret the 3rd fret and hammer on the 5th.Does anyone know any way to stop these things happening?
Thanks.
Mike

Re: What is the diff Jumbo size and normal acoustic guitar? (3 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
@Jackson C: Other than the obvious diference in size of the Body. A jumbo acoustic guitar will tend to produce deeper tones than the non-jumbo acoustic guitars. Wood choice is imperative to produce awesome sound though more so than size and shape.
I recomend that you concentrate more on finding a guitar that is comfortable for you to play and that sounds great.
Good Luck!

Re: Chromatic exercises (13 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
Chromatic's are a great way to get started, because they build up good syncopation, but what it means is that if you plan on playing four notes per string very fast, then it will work great, but if you don't want to restrict yourself, then you need to work on other things as well.
Let's say two notes per string, then four on the next, three on the next one, etc. Or maybe string skipping or pedal tone passages.
Even if you get really fast, you really have to break everything down, and account for everything. If you start thinking like this, you'll start to see all sorts of combinations of notes and strings that you can work with.
A lot of guitar players can play fast, but they can only play certain types of runs fast unfortunately. Try and think about how you can mix things up to improve your accuracy. Hope this helps
I wouldn't recommend spending too much time practicing chromatic exercises other than tryin to build on rythm and speed with fingers. I found most useful practicing modes instead of scales and chromatics. Just my two cents.
