Thanks Olly, do you have any recommendations on an electric guitar I should go for?

Obviously the cheaper the better but I want something that is good quality also.

Ah that sounds good to know, do you think if I change to an electric guitar it may help? I've heard barre chords are a lot easier to play for beginners......

thanks guys, mikey I'm hoping to play alternative and indie/rock type of songs as that's really what I'm into.

Do you think I should upgrade to an electric as I've heard the strumming and making notes sound clearer (especially barre chords) is a lot easier for beginners?

Ok, this may or may not be something that you've encountered before in guitar playing. I broke my left wrist around 15 years ago. 10 years ago I had an operation on the wrist to cut away bone (as it was growing at a weird angle due to the prior damage) and insert a metal plate to hold it together.

The wrist does ache occasionally, especially when typing, but it's never really bothered me.

However, recently I began attempting barre chords and through bending the wrist into unnatural angles and applying pressure, I felt my forearm cramping like the muscle was going to burst out the skin. Lasted about 2 or 3 days and I had to put deep heat on it.

I just wondered, is this normal? Is the muscle just building and adapting to change? Is my technique incorrect? Or should I give the barre chords a miss as this could be damaging?

I really wouldn't want to give up on the barre chords....so I'm hoping it's a normal thing.

To introduce myself, I've always loved music and had an interest in guitars. I bought one a long time ago and went for a few lessons but it's only lately I'm really getting back into it. For around 3 months I'd say, I've been teaching myself from internet on an almost daily basis. Mainly through sources such as Justinguitar and martyzsongz from youtube (that guy is so good)

I have an acoustic Yamaha F310, and I am able to play (albeit not very well) a couple of songs. I'd say the main areas I need to improve is in my strumming pattern, technique/playing notes more clearly (I find it difficult to not make at least one string vibrate with a dull sound) and then singing a long with guitar playing...I'm somebody who likes to hum a long or put my lungs into it and I haven't quite grasped how to combine the two without one speeding up too much  default/big_smile

Anyway, that's enough about me. I hope I've given you an insight and I'm looking forward to talking with everyone and hopefully learning a bit more from more experienced players with equal passion.
