Hey Zelig, welcome to this great forum!

Eric
Hey guys, here are some tricks for learning the notes on the fretboard.
1) Memorize natural notes on low E, A, and D strings. Remember B-C and E-F are 1 fret (half step) apart. All other natural notes are 2 frets (whole step) apart.
2) Use octaves to identify the notes on the higher strings.
3) Use reference points, such as the tuning frets, and 12th fret.
4) Talk in terms of notes when playing.
5) Make sure you have a handy fretboard chart.
6) Drill the notes up and down the neck - natural notes, and chromatically.
7) Highlight the natural notes on your fretboard chart.
8) Have someone quiz you.
Any questions, just let me know! GO STUDY!!
I like dunlop jazz tortex picks!
Dunlop is great since they have so much variety.
Cool mikey...is he your first kid?

Hey there Nick, welcome to the forum!
Looking forward to getting to know you better :-)
Eric
Congrats Mikey, that's wonderful news!!
Best of luck.
Maybe he'll be the next Eric Clapton?
hope this category is ok. Just noticed the theory category,
but this is very important for songwriting
Knowing about harmony is very helpful when writing songs.
In this post, I will talk about harmonizing the major scale.
You can think of a harmonized scale as a scale played in terms
of chords.
The harmonized major scale follows this order:
maj min min maj maj min dim
Note:
maj = major
min = minor
dim = diminished
So, for example, in the key of C major (CDEFGABC),
the chords that are diatonic, or belonging to the key are:
Cmaj Dmin Emin Fmaj Gmaj Amin Bdim
Cool? Using these chords would be a good starting
point for the key of C.
This may seem confusing but we can talk about this more!
definitely! one of the greatest left handers...especially hendrix
speaking of lefties, any lefty players on here?
definitely watermelon...great tools for practicing
and learning!!
guess it the facebook (chordbook) for guitar,
but not really social lol.
A few of my private student's have this and it's awesome!!
Really great practice tool, especially for working on your
lead and improvisation.
Anyone else ever try it?
Was going through this site and found it :-)
Thanks olly and john, here for you guys too! Just let me know if you need anything.
The link I have on there is to my blog, but im making it into a finger tapping course
hope EVH likes it!! have a great night guys.
watermelon, looks good thanks for sharing.
whats fumble to you get right?
don't know the exact reason why its called warped refraction principle, but i know it has something to do with physics/science.
James...about the floyd rose, you're definitely right. you could put a block type of thing in the bridge area to keep it from moving (but then no floyd!)
also guys...how about the gibson robot??
Anytime Olly, it's my pleasure! Yes, I've written songs but it's been a while
Would love to hear some of your tunes or ideas!!
I can tell you what I think and give suggestions if you like.
Thanks for the link John!
Also, some teachers on here might like
"guitar teacher magazine"by String Letter Publishing, Inc.
Hey polyal,
Yes, very interesting material.
Also, do you know what the "Warp Refraction Principle" is?
Most guitar players don't!
It actually pertains to the tuning of the B and G strings...how it
is offset. What's cool about 6 string guitar is that it's tuned in 4ths,
except G & B strings, which are a 3rd apart. I'm sure you know
that though
Also, here's another interesting tuning thing:
The F note, on the 6th string 1st fret can be used to
tune to a dial tone...don't do it though lol!
Oh, one more interesting thing about tuning...sorry if
I'm rambling lol. There used to be a 900 # to call
to get an A440 to tune your guitar. There was a small charge
for the service. Not like today with all the gadgets and things
we can use to tune our guitars.
Maybe I should go check my guitar tuning now!!
Hey Olly, I think it's really important to be inspired.
Also, listen to songs that you like for ideas, and put in
your creativity too!
A good place to start might be to play some nice arpeggios.
These can be inspiring, especially on nice sounding sus2 and
sus4 chords.
Another idea is to practice moving open chords along the
neck. While some positions will sound bad, some will sound
very beautiful and harmonious.
Hope that helps my friend.
Great forum by the way!
Sincerely,
Eric
hey there, hard to choose, they were all awesome!
