Hey All

I am looking to replace my beaten up old Stratocaster that I have had for a while now, but I am looking to replace it possibly with an Epiphone. I usually play Classic/Blues Rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Hendrix, etc), Grunge/Hard Rock (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Muse, etc) or some more Alternative/Softer bands (Radiohead et similar)

So far I have looked at three different Epiphones: Firebird, Les Paul Oxblood and Wildkat.

I was wondering which one people thought was best/best suited or if anyone had any ideas on other guitars that are under £300 that would be good for the job.

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at this epiphone it's called an explorer here's a link mate it is acctually a great guitar my friends got one its got great sounds looks and everything default/cool

Might be worth just trying say the Omen 6, and then trying something else in the shop that has EMG's then you can hear the difference.

Apparently Schecter and ESP owned by the same people, and I did read somewhere that some of them are made in the same factory..

Good luck with your search - my purchases were both impulse buys... Went it just to try, compare etc, and well u know how it goes....  default/big_smile

If you've got around £400-£500 to spend, to be honest I'd just get the one guitar, and get one with better pick ups etc.

I would EMG's are good pickups for metal too, and much better than those you get on the Omen.

The ESP's are fab but if you want to do alternate tunings its a nightmare - lots of metal is in drop d or c, so a hard tail would be a good option, have a look at this:-

This has got active EMG's, and when I played it in the shop I loved it:-

I have a peavy vypyr 75. I think for metal styles its very good.

You have The xxx, the 6505 on there as well as many others.

On top of that there are  9 stomp box effects and 11 rack effects. To be fair when I was looking it was the one packed with the most features.

Check them out before making up your mind.

I'm upgrading to a good modelling amp and I need something that I can play hard rock/metal on that type of thing. I've got a choice between two used amps:

Crate GT212 with Danelectro phaser and Danelectro PB&J thrown in, costing £140 (£228)

or

Line 6 Spider 212 with channel changer/selector thrown in, costing £120 (£195)

Not got enough knowledge on amps to make the decision so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

HI there Just a little advice

If you were going to get the line 6 you mite b getting sothing that you will probs replace in a few month.

I was going to get a line 6 but then i compared it to a peavey as in sound, effects bla bla bla

And it has to be said the line six was crap compared to the peavey cos i actually tested them both in person.

Just thought it mite help. LOL

some people prefer the fixed bridges  less hassle and you concentrate more on the playng than toying around with floating trems  like me lol its a cool toy and can have alot of fun with them but if your into heavy metal/rock  its your duty to divebomb and satch squeels default/cool

The schecter omen 6 im think im going to get has a fixed bridge plus all the guitars i've had have had a fixed bridge Thanks alot mate default/cool
