Thanks for all your advicev polyal. I took the guitar to a guitar shop on your advice and it seems it was broken. The fingerboard was bowed and there was a small crack at the base of the guitar. Also it wouldn't play through an amp. Needless to say I have returned it and got my money back. Phew...close shave!! Thanks again.

I recently bought a second hand electric acoustic guitar from a charity shop for my teenage son. It is an Academy, has anyone heard of this and is it a good make? I paid £50 for it and have since discovered that the battery test light comes on, but the guitar won't play through an amp. Is it worth having it repaired or should I return it? It looks lovely but I don't play guitar so can't judge if it's any good. Haven't told my son as is a surprise for his birthday, Can anyone help please?? default/hmm
