I think the answer is NO!!!

I can't believe so much time gets wasted debating these sorts of nonsense issues - surely there is more important things to be worrying about!

That isn't good Poly - do you find this negatively affects your recording work now?

I think "put you own  spin on it" is the correct term.

There are loads of amazing songs out there that I prefer the covered version. A typical example is Knocking on Heavens Door - I would never have liked the original as much as I like the GnR version - the melody is the same, the lyrics are the same which goes to show that a song is more than just a good melody and good lyrics.

Gmail is the best I have used so far. All my other email addresses have become virtually unusable but the gmail one generally remains spam free so definitely give it a go.

Just as an update I managed to get my tuners on.

In the end I ordered a reamer off amazon and used it to increase the hole size enough to get them in. After the first one the others went in pretty well.

The nice thing about these tuners is that they clamp the string in place then automatically chop the end of the string as you tune it up. Pretty clever.

Nice one James.

So regarding the drums, it is just EZ drummer but with added effects from guitar rig? I use EZ myself but haven't added any effects.

How do you get along with Guitar Rig? does it have a pedal that comes with it for control or is it just software only?

I have not really heard anything of Slipknot or Rammstein - I think they will be a little heavy even for my liking. So it looks unlikely that I will go to download next year!

I think getting pis*ed before is probably the killer - and the fact I am getting old and can't hack it any more! Put me in a darkened room after a few beers and there is only one outcome and the noise levels are irrelevant!

That first video is harsh! But you do see bikers like that about - taking risks with both their lives and others! Glad to hear you aren't like that James!

But the caravan one was funny!

Ok thanks. I think I better leave it to the expert and take it back for him to adjust.

If I changed to the Earvana system how easy is it to change the nut? It looks like it must be glued in place so no obvious easy way to remove?

Really good James - what did you use for the drums on this?

and how long did it take you to write it from the first idea to the end production?

I went to the Marshall 50th concert and it was pretty good apart from I ended up getting so pis*ed up before hand that I don't remember much of it.

In fact I think I actually fell asleep through parts - my only defence is we did have some of the worst seats in the house.

I am going to see Tenacious D in a couple of weeks then Steel Panther in November followed by Thunder at Christmas.

So who are you going to see?

My custom made guitar is causing me a few issues.

I put some lighter strings on it and tuned up and everything seemed ok. However changing chords some notes are really out of tune.

So what could be causing this and how do I go about sorting it?

I really love my Les Paul but I really do not like the tuners.

Not only do they seem cheap and plasticy - they also don't handle fine tuning very well at all and also the G seems to go out of tune loads.

Reading up a little on changing them I note that the G string issue might be the nut rather than the tuners?

Anyhow I ordered a set of planet waves tuners which have a ration of 18:1 and also clamp the string and automatically but off the loose string so it doesn't have to be wrapped around and I don't have to find anything to trim it.

So all in all I was happy to have found them.

Last night I tried to fit them and disaster - the holes are currently smaller than the required holes. and whats more, I have gouged some of the paint/varnish in trying to get the old one out. Totally gutted!

So can anyone advise on the best method to make the hole bigger and whether I should actually attempt this myself ? Also how easy is it to repair the damage that I have done? It is quite minor but major to me!

Cheers

James - what would we do without you!? the forum would surely die  (or go even quieter for longer) without your input so thank you!

James - you just have to train it. It takes a while but you can do it and it is definitely worth while. Just walk up the fretboard using each finger including your pinky. It will soon build up strength and become usable

I don't really understand how anyone could really play guitar that out of tune - was it in tune to itself and just out of tune to other instruments?

I have never heard of this before - and I don't really get what it does??

I definitely don't think I could...

I know a tone that I like to hear but how it is achieved I wouldn't know and if I were to try and recreate it, I think that you would not have to use the same guitar/amp to recreate something pretty darn close.

I think it is true as well that a lot of tone comes from the player so unless you are Paul Gilbert, even if you used his exact setup, you still wouldn't sound like Paul Gilbert.

I think proper technique is really important.

I made the pinky mistake way back and it took years trying to correct when I realised I really did need it!

There are loads of other bad habits that are easy to get trapped into - a guitar teacher should identify these and encourage good technique from the start!

Next Saturday is the anniversary gig for Marshall's 50th.

The likes of Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and others are performing.

I'm going - anyone else?
