A good cheap valve amp with a KILLER sound is the WEM clubman. 5w I think - loud enough but breaks up at a low enough volume to get away with

WEM did some great gear back in the day

I don't like modelling amps. I like proper valve amps. A marshall with hot valves absolutely pisses all over any digital recreation of the same. Honestly, try one if you can.

Those kind of amps are ok for messing around at home, but i'd rather not play one out, and would NEVER record with one

Looks Japanese to me

That went way too high - I suppose it is in superb condition, but in my experience these go closer to £300-£400 with typical play wear

Having said this, they go for a lot more in America than they do here. They do seem pretty rare out of the UK, so I suppose that might have helped the price up.

Make sure you offer world-wide shipping when you list it

that Epiphone SG is really sweet - is that the faded walnut finish?

anyone have any thoughts on the Epiphone Wilkat.

I'm seriously considering one of these - they look really nice - just looking for opinions before I leap.....

The first two I learned were sunshine of your love, and hey joe

Both easy songs to play the basics, then also good to start learning to solo - chucking in a lick or two, trhen returning back to the main pattern

satisfaction, house of the rising sun, teenage kicks etc came next....

I've been using Adobe Audition. Its really easy to use, and I love it. Having said this, I don't do a lot of recording. Can anyone give me a reason to try something else?

Do you mean before a gig? Generally I don't do anything like that, just play for 15 mins....

However when i'm just at home noodling I do try and make myself change positions as much as possible, and use the whole neck if I can.

This may not be the best way to practise, but its what I do

Ebay. I have bought LOTS (40 or 50), and only been conned once - had I have been quicker I could have got a refund, but let the deadline slip. They are sometimes badly described, so knowing what you are buying is important

I prefer the cry baby. I did buy a new Vox, but went back to my scratchy cty baby the next day

i'm on 11s

been moving up for some time - I started on 8s. Many older guitars were designed for thicker strings (even 12s) and will sound so much better with thicker strings. Yes, bending requires more attention (its still quite possible) but tone is far superior.

I will never go lighter!

No, I haven't

But I have been looking at the vox ones

Like this one here http://cgi.ebay.com/VOX-AMPLUG-METAL-PE … dZViewItem

I'm really tempted, but like you am a bit wary of it sounding lame. Would like to hear a few opinions before I buy. anyone....

there are so many. I could be greedy and say something just because it is stupidly expensive, but I think i'll settle for a Gibson Crest.

They were rosewood and completely hollow. Made in the late 60s, and early 70s. I just love the natural wood look.

You can see pictures of the Gibson Crest here. Now tell me thats not a beauty.

I don't know if they sound as good as they look

Another good vintage site is vintageguitars.org.uk - especially if you are into Gibson guitars

Ebay is great at the moment. Prices are good, because everyone is a bit skint - I will never buy from a dealer again, because Ebay can be half the price. Though, if the amount of fakes that we have been seeing increases I may think again.

I want an old Jazz guitar - looking for a new year present for myself

Obviously Hendrix. Listen to villanova junction, live at woodstock. Yeah, its scrappy in places, but its got SOUL that too many guitarists just replace with speed.

Another fave is Jeff Beck. Listen to 'let me love you' from Truth. The intro is amazing. Once again, no super-fast-for-the-sake-of-it licks, just a feeling and vibe that is simply fantastic. Pretty tricky getting all those bends to sound right, I can tell you

And what about George Benson... ok I don't like everything hes done, but do you know his version of summertime... Beautiful playing
