My impression was that the changes to the laws following the miners' strikes were largely to create anonymous ballots. My father in law was telling me that at his union meetings years ago, the union leaders would say "hands up all in favour of xyz" and everyone would be looking around to see how their friends were voting. He said that he spent most of the early 80s skint because they were forever on strike!

Topic: Trade unions vs democratic government (10 replies, posted in Politics & Economics)
The trade unions are threatening to unite to strike if the UK coalition government presses ahead with plans to cut public spending.

I personally find it very distasteful that trade unions think that they have the right to bully a democratically elected government into submission.
What does everybody else think?

I think Obama comes across quite well.
Yeah I'm curious as to your answer to Olly's question - how is he viewed at home?

Re: Why is it that the classical guitar generally held on the left leg? (6 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
Good question! I hadn't noticed it till you mentioned it but yeah, many players do position it that way. I rest it on the right leg. I suppose it just comes down to what you've been taught and what you're comfortable with.

I would never buy a guitar as an investment, to look at only and to never play.Yes, you're right. Art collectors....They have plenty of money to burn and show off. I don't think I can afford it. Just bought a used "unbranded" guitar for my son lately. Look and sound ok to me but not as good as branded ones.
I dunno EG, I think quite often the quality of unbranded guitars is just as good as branded guitars.
I suppose it's like any other product, often you pay for the name.

No, and I don't think I'd bother, having heard the last album. It's not GnR anymore! It's Axl Rose singing in a new band. (I think we've had this discussion somewhere in he forum
)

I drink diet coke but yeah I've heard that too Olly, apparantly saccharine is very bad for cellular reproduction. We just need a biologist to tell us what that means.
