I've not heard it; I hadn't even heard it was out. I'm gonna check it out on youtube at the weekend. (just to be sure before investing in the price of a CD; I am Scottish you know)

I was really dissappointed in the Guns n' Roses "Chinese Democracy" album. It was Axl Rose singing but it wasn't G n R.

I totally agree with what you're saying about the "old lineup" -  GnR was what it was because of a combination of some very distinct styles. That's all gone now I'm afraid.

I was blasting some Satriani on the way to work this morning . . . quality.

Oh yeah, there are tons of resources available on-line, many of them won't cost you a penny.

Starting again.

Hi Onei and welcome - I think it's a bit like riding a bike, you never forget.

What sort of music do you play?

What's your budget? If I had a couple of hundred quid to spare I'd consider a Fender. But of course you end up paying a bit more for the name. Maybe a Vox?

I assume it's for an electric?

Now that is good to know . . . scraping can be incredibly distracting. I might be tempted to try them now.

Is it the sound/tone the primary reason you choose these?

No, not at all. If I'm to be perfectly honest I think D'Addario's marketing techniques got me hooked when I was an impressionable youngster - they always had massive full-page ads in Guitar World with the latest star of the day looking all cool with his D'Addario strings.

I use a 9-guage on electric, they bend more than a 10 but stay in tune longer than an 8.

I can't actually remember what guage I last bought for the acoustic. I bought a 9 by accident for it once years ago, wasn't thinking! It didn't work out . . . .

Hi all, does anyone have tabs or sheet music for this? It's a great Scottish folk song but I can't find free tabs anywhere on-line for it (and I sure as hell ain't paying . . . )

I'm more of a D'Addario kind of guy, don't think I've ever tried elixirs. Good sound then?

Money has arrived safely, thank you very much indeed.

The question is, what to do with it??? The possibilities seem endless.

My wife bought me a new guitar for my birthday (acoustic-electric, an absolute peach, never had one before) so I'm sorted in that respect.

Any suggestions?

I could conform to racial sterotype and suggest beer, of course....
Maybe a nice meal out, and a good bottle of aussie red to wash it down with?

Hmmm, good suggestions . . . but I don't drink so it'll have to be a nice meal washed down with a glass of water or perhaps, if I'm feeling REALLY extravagent, SODA water! Oooh the temptation . . . .

Good choice - I might pick the same three actually. I might add Kirk Hammett to the list.

Hi aussie and welcomeVCCB. Sorry to hear of the technical glitchHYYT but great to have you hereUNNB!

Hope your wife's well, tell her to join us too! Hey maybe Olly can start a section called "guitarists' wives" where they can moan about the noise we make in a supportive and friendly environment.

That reminds me of a joke - what do you get if you cross a dislexic with an insomniac and an agnostic?
Someone who stays up all night wondering if there's a Dog.

Sorry.

I use the Ultimate Guitar site because it tends to be the first one that comes up in a google search but I'm curious as to what resources other people use.

Does anyone still buy books??

Hey blind.

I'm not sure about this particular model but Aria Pro II is a reputable brand. I used to have one years ago but it got nicked; I was devastated! It was a quality guitar.

Ibanez . . . now there's a brand that seems to have gone quiet. They don't seem to have had any real champions since Steve Vai. Any thoughts?

Congratulations mikeyBoab for your contribution. You have won £50 in the currency of your choice!

Well done!

Now we we have another competition shortly.

WAHEY! Thanks very much.

I'd like to thank my parents, my agent, God . . . but above all my employer for giving me a desk facing away from the wall so that I can spend my working hours on Olly's Guitar Forum!

Not sure if I agree - rumour has it Kirk Hammett can't read notation . . .

Blowin in the Wind. I was 11 and in my first band - the Original Rock Brothers. We won second place in the middle school talent show.
