thanks for removing clips ..can you sort out uploading with google chrome
..the problem with 3rd party uploads is...edits / mods and esp comments
cant be added to the post ( by the author )
will upload fast version again ASAP
+is there anyway of downloading a clip as an mp3 straight from a posting???
I will try and look for a better upload method today.
Just drop the tags I sent you into your post for now then you will be able to edit comments etc.
At the moment there is no simple way of downloading the MP3 - I can look into this.
The issue with allowing direct uploads is that it opens up a load of security issues within the server. So I will try and relax the rulings a little without creating too much risk.
It looks like this problem with Chrome could have been around for a while
http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p … &hl=en
I just downloaded the latest version and successfully uploaded 2 x MP3s no problem. So if you are using Chrome can you update to the latest version and try again?
Thanks
downloaded v17 chrome...still no joy
what version of chrome have you got?
Can you send me that exact file you attempted and I will try this on my Chrome - v17.0.963.79 m
well done olley...google chrome v17...etc now works

original guit with bass and drums ( fast )
the whole point is..two separate people collaborated to get this ( pop type feel )
it can now be taken further / altered / added to...whatever by other people
or the original can be treated completely different

slow version....these are just tryouts so anything can be changed
so if someones got a country/blues/jazz/folk ...etc idea get it posted
and let other people contribute ideas
Glad it is all working again.
Is that guitar in the slow version the same tempo as the orig or did you slow it slightly? I can imagine that the reason it sounds slower is just because of the drums and bass giving it that feel?
the guitar is exactly the same in both versions ...
the bass and drums are played to give the required feel
to give the desired results ( fast/slow)
in cubase they are both done with a setting of 132 Bpm
the fast one is 4/4 (4 beats per bar) the slow one 2/4 ( 2 beats per bar )
so the slow one is exactly 1/2 the speed of the fast one
if cubase ( or any daw ) was set to 66Bpm
then the slow one would be 4/4 (4 beats per bar ) and the fast one 8/4 ( 8 beats per bar )
ie the fast would be exactly 2x the speed of the slow one
in either case everything would sound exactly the same
import the 2 versions into your daw ...line them up to start on the bar
and try these tempos 33 66 132 264 set the metronome to 4/4 and listen to the click
even though the tempos have changed the speed remains the same
you could record it at 264Bpm but to get the same results (speed ) you would have to record
at 1/4 ( 1 beat per bar ) and 2/4 ( 2 beats per bar )
perhaps someone has got a better way of explaining it but thats how i see it
All looks good so come on lets have some more input.
Have you done anything with it Olly??????????????????
No James. I really don't have a clue where to go from here. This is my stumbling block zone so I am watching with great interest on how it can be taken from this idea, into a song
We could do with a lead line.....
Its just a idea, but it works for me......I loop the loop and plug me axe in and just play till I get some thing.....I learnt this from Uni when you have writing block-----pick up a pen and start to write anything that is related.

a song writer usually thinks of a melody / lyrics then puts the chord structure round it
or something similar to that...this approach is to write a backing that might give a
songwriter some inspiration to write a melody to ...( most songwriters i know can do this ) so before all the bells and whistles a 1/2 decent chord progression is needed to base everything else on.
this is why input will give it a chance...else come on james get your thinking cap on
we've got the intro C Cmaj7 Am..I bet theres loads of talent on the forum but recording and posting
mp3's is a no no
I put in the track in Cubase and added some drums, looped it and just put a tiny bit of acoustic over the top (I'm really not set up for this).
But this is the same as I am always up to - exactly this point. I try to think about where it could go next, try thinking up a melody but in the end I just end up noodling with no direction over the fret board until I get bored.
So I think it will be massively beneficial for me to see how you guys move beyond this step.
And whilst I don't think I will specifically be able to contribute much to this collaboration, I am working along with it at every step of the way!
So what would you guys consider this part - is it purely the intro, is it the start of a verse as well?
I am open would be interested to hear the acoustic ... Would give me a better idea...
I always start with a chord progression sometimes it doesn't even stay.
Strangely enough I am good at lyrics but leave the melody to my mate.....I seem to just follow the chords. Where as me pal comes up with a melody that fits but does not follow the chords. That works for us..
As for the bpm. I see this song been about a man or a woman who wants to be with a partner they can not have. So ballady, yet, I did a clean sample in the hope of Alun and ricky B joining in. I would like to keep the song moving so my vote is 132.
As for Olly's block.....I have a big poster (in a frame) in the room of John Lennon. Although I am worshiper of everything that is ACDC our John was a fellow dyslexic. This I find a pure inspiration. Maybe Olly You just need to find your inspiration..
Maybe Olly You just need to find your inspiration..
Maybe James though even when I feel inspired I cannot get past this initial barrier of taking an idea one stage forward.
Maybe once I got the ball rolling, I would be ok.
It sounds daft.....but this can't get a project moving, is very similar to how a dyslexic like me is proven to feel when in education......
"I have a picture in my mind that I want to paint.....I put brush in paint lift paint to canvass and nothing"
A quote from a book I read about dyslexia.....
So if I sound condescending I don't mean to. I can relate to this more than you think.
Again the advise I can give "when you have writers block, write"
On a side note when I went to school which feels like another life now, I as told I was "thick" daily and "never amount to nothing". It is scientifically proven that Dyslexics use more of there brains, on average 12%. Have higher IQs then average mines 129 and are extremely creative in all ways of thinking....
And they called me thick..
It is possible that I could have some form of music writing dyslexia if that even exists!
The difference is, is that I don't have a picture in my mind to start with. I'm trying to seek inspiration from the foundation, in this case the initial chord progression, and generally I have no problem being inspired to lay down an initial idea like this.
So tell me the next stages from here - how do you plan to take it one step forward?
I would like to think we could get another cord progression.......
Put the two together if they don't fit another one and so on....
I was hoping as previously mentioned that Alun or Ricky might contribute..I will E-mail Alun see if I can get him interested....
Olly can you post you acoustic version that way Poly can work on that..
I didn't save my acoustic version as the recording was so crap due to my mics not being set up for it. I will do so though, possibly not for the next couple of days due to my work schedule
