Les Paul or Strat

I own neither and won't be getting a new axe anytime soon....
But which do you prefer..
I have all ways thought the Les Paul looks the real deal and the Strat a bit, well, boring but after watching The Who in concert tonight Pete Townsend gets some great sounds out of a Strat and IMHO Pete don't play a Guitar he wilds a weapon...Great to see and hear.

I agree with you regarding the strat. It has never been a shape that I really liked although my first ever electric guitar was a strat (cheap copy!) and of course, I did love it at the time.
The Les Paul for me is just great. It oozes pure rock. I am so pleased with mine it has rocketed above the JS1000 immediately.

There are major differences between the 2 guitars.The sustain from the Les Paul comes from the arched maple top.The humbucking pickups are 2 single coils wound together which cancels the hum.The glued on jointed neck of the Paul creates different sound characteristics of the bolted on Strat neck.The Strat has 3 single coil pick ups and with a simple jumper wire on the pick up selector switch you can share the lead pick up with one of the tone controls.Everything heads toward personal choice and the kind of music you're playing.The Strat can be used with multiple effects and the original sound of the instrument still remains.The Strat tremolo unit is a marvel invention and is still one of the best units to this day.

Yeah I got 2, a 1963 Standard and a classic with p90's. Easily my favourite guitars.

Respect on the 63, out of your two which is your fav.
Mine is a 2010 standard...I am thinking of a pick up swap to the 57 classic.

It's gotta be the 1963 standard, I bought the classic so I could semi retire the old standard but now I use a Parker fly as my main gigging guitar because it's so versatile.
