Ah what I do to record at home, how ive done it thorugh the years, from the classic taperecorder. to using an Alesis USB guitar to USB cable to right now...Using a Microphone I bought at wal-mart for 2 bucks( actual price was 15 but it was on clearance.) Iv'e used differnt programs some good some I wanna throw my pc out the window. To record now I use MAgix movie maker(it acutlly does good captureing the sound and the Wal-mart mic. Now the mic does good as well considerng what it is. recording at a set distance to avoid to much hiss and noise I can record "clean" playing quit well. Now when I play my fave style,Metal thats when it gets ruff
Iv'e constintly been experimenting with this set up to get the optimal sound with what i got. Iv'e just now got back into playing to record songs and post to sound cloud recently like withn the last 2 months, The music gear buying bug has hit me again haha. So I will upgrade to a bette recording setup hopefully within the year.
Well gotta roll-Thanx for reading:)

That is a very ... interesting setup, would be fun to hear what it sounds like. Post us the link to your sound cloud.

In my experience the cheapest way to get awesome recordings is to use an emulator, there's plenty of software versions you can get for free or on trial these days, AmpliTube, GTR and Guitar Rig to name a few.

Or if you want to record from your amp the minimum you would need in my opinion would be a Shure sm57 microphone paired with sound card with an inbuilt preamp...
