It took me about a year before I felt comfortable playing with other people.

This is a really good guide. It is important to manage expectations.

I have seen many people pick up a guitar and be amazed how quickly they can start playing a few chords. However, they quickly become frustrated when everything else doesn't come as quickly and then give up all together.

This is a lifelong journey of learning. You never 'complete' the game and there is always soemthing else to learn or to work on.
