It doesn't have to be anything fancy. You can use your phone. But, I guarantee you don't sound anything like you think you sound. You will also find out your timing is terrible. But, these are good things because they will tell you what you need to work on.

Two tips: One, do not expect to sound like our favorite person. The amount of effects and postprocessing that goes into music is insane. If you have heard a raw track, like a demo they recorded at home, and the final, you will see. Second, If you are just beginning and just learning the C chord, I don't think this helps much with that. But, once you start trying that those first couple songs, record away.

Young people don’t realise just how fancy of a recording device your phone is. When I was “your age” the best you could hope for was a tape recorder that made everything sound like it was recorded on an answering machine in a horror movie. Which, too be honest was a cool sound. It just didn’t sound anything close to real life.
