Hey everyone! So I’ve been playing guitar for a few years now, mostly by ear and just figuring things out as I go. Recently, I decided to dive into some music theory to get a better grasp on what I’m doing and why it works. I’m curious, how has learning theory changed your playing? I feel a bit lost trying to connect the dots between scales, chord progressions, and improvisation. Sometimes it feels like it complicates things more than it helps. Did you find that understanding the theory made you a better player? Or did it just give you a new set of tools to use? Any insights would be great!

I played for years without really thinking about theory, and when I finally started to learn it, it felt a bit overwhelming at first. However, once I started connecting the dots, it made my playing so much more intuitive, especially when it came to improvising over different progressions.
