Guitar Cases: Which Offers the Best Protection?

Hey folks. I’ve got a lovely Strat that I’m planning to take on a few gigs, but I’m not sure what type of case I should invest in. I’ve seen hard cases, soft cases, and even hybrids, and honestly, it’s a bit overwhelming. I get that a hard case might offer the best protection against knocks and bumps, but I've heard soft cases can be lighter and easier to carry.

What do you all prefer for your gear? Is the extra weight worth it for the hard case, or can a decent gig bag do the job without risking damage? Any recommendations or experiences would be really helpful! Cheers!

I used to have a soft case for my acoustic, but after a few gigs where I bumped it against stuff, I ended up getting a hard case. I just felt like my guitar was safer in there, especially when travelling. Plus, it was a bit of a pain carrying it around, but knowing my guitar was protected made it worth it.

I hear you both. I’ve got a hard case for my vintage Strat, and honestly, I wouldn’t risk it without one. Those things are like my babies! But I also have a decent gig bag for local jams, and it’s great for the convenience. Just depends on how rough you plan to be on your gear. If you’re really gigging hard, I’d lean towards a hard case.
