How to Tackle Feedback Issues on Stage?

Hey everyone, I'm having a bit of a nightmare with feedback during my live gigs. I play in a small band, and the last few shows have been plagued with it, especially when I'm near the amp or the mic. I know some of it can be due to mic placement, but I'm not entirely sure what the best practices are. Should I be adjusting my amp settings or trying something different with my pedals? I'm really keen to avoid that awful squeal, and I'd love to hear what techniques you all use to manage feedback effectively. Any tips would be appreciated!
