I have a Marshall JCM900 head and 2 x 12 cab - This is too loud for home use

I bought a Laney LC15R - 15 watt valve amp but again this is just too loud for normal home use.

I now use a Marshall valvestate amp at home. This goes very loud but is also good at lower volumes.

I am not sure how Marshall Valvestate amps run but I like their features because everyone wishes to has such amp. Good quality at low volumes.

I have a 1970's Laney all valve head, into a 1961 Marshall 2x12 cab, which is brilliant for clean, and almost impossible to overdrive, also a Session Duette which is very nice for a solid state amp, But my favourite at the moment is the new Fender Mustang 2, modeling amp's aren't that popular it seems, but I think this is cool, especially the twin reverb, and 60's Marshall sounds, I'm loving it.

My current Electric Amp is a BlackStar Stage 60 2x12 combo, and my Acoustic Amp is the Fishman Performer Pro Tower.

Do you use the Blackstar even fro practice and how does it preform at lower volumes?

That Blackstar is a beast, but I dont use it at low volumes. In practice I plug into my Boss JS8 - Its a nice little jam station, practice devise that has a lot of versatility. Also for home use I have a couple of small Line 6's, like the Micro and a Spider 15.

I dont like lugging my BlackStar around, its big n heavy, so I travel light as possible.

I am a sucker for tone over heavy distortion... As such I like the amp to make up 75% of the tone with 15% from me and 10% from any FX.

For years I was OK with a Session Rockette 30 - British Built solid state amp - Clapton used these amps to record the August album on and I can see why.

After dabbling with valve amps more recently, I have clearly identified what sounds I like and where it was in a Boutique amp like a Carr Rambler or Tone King Metropolitan (and thus very expensive), I managed to uncover great deals that deliver the required tones at affordable levels.

Cornford Roadhouse 30 combo
Fender Super Reverb
Fender Super~Sonic 60 combo
Fender Tweed Deluxe
Fender Super Champ
Pignose G40V

Often I stereo-up in pairs for great clean and driven simultaneously.

Oh and a shout for my very first amp - A Woolworths Audition Piggy-Back 15w circa 1970... still works!

I've had this Marshall lead 20 amp since the 80's. Doesn't work all that well, but it delivers the tone that I want. I put a British vintage Celestion 30 12 inch in it and it really has it own unique tone.

I love old school tones and have a Kingsley Deluxe 30 (which nails that 60's Vox vibe and then some) and a Swart Atomic Spacetone for that 50's tweed vibe. I recently played a Lazy J at Chandlers and now have a Lazy J 20 on order - that will teach me!

I don't have anything fancy. I used to use a 100 watt Marshall but now i just use a 75 watt Line 6. Both my Tele and Jackson sound really good through it. I wish the distortion was a little better, but it's not all that bad. Clean is awesome.
