Topic: Bending a Note

What is the best way to apply note bending. I know this is the most common technique but I always feel that some of the fretting-hand techniques are what I struggle with.  Is it easily accomplished on a acoustic or an electric guitar ?

Re: Bending a Note

well my frnd bending is one thing tht i loveeeeee
well always be sure of wht ur guitar can offer, u dont wanna take to extrem levels or ur strings might break
there are many types of bend
,1/4,1/2, full ,1 1/2, 2(only if ur guitr can)
one full means tht u going from one natural note to another natural note
and so others can be calculated

Re: Bending a Note

my cheap semi- acoustic guitar can't do the full note bent.
either one will break, my string or my guitar neck!

Re: Bending a Note

you could do a full bend in your acoustic but will need a quality string for that. It is far easier to apply in a electric though.

Re: Bending a Note

A bend is not difficult to applicated, but if you want to use a 1 1/2 or 2 you need a strong finger.... you will need to use all fingers to reach the note....

Re: Bending a Note

Thumb over the top of the neck, bend with the majority of the strength from the wrist/twist of the arm/fingers relatively rigid.

Re: Bending a Note

As well as the string bend it's also important to decide whether or not you will add vibrato to the bend. It is also a technique worth practising. Top players are known for their vibrato whether fast or slow and you can usually recognise a player by their vibrato, i.e Gary Moore, Slash, BB King etc..

Re: Bending a Note

you can ' bend ' the strings on any guitar as long as the strings are light enough ( gauge )
the lighter the string the easier and further the bend...the trade off ..if you use chords a lot they can start
to sound a bit iffy if not precisely fingered

i find 10 12 17 26 36 46 a good compromise for mixed styles
