the chinese have banned all horsemeat products because they've found traces of
beef in them ...so if you go for a chinese order the fruit salad

from now on the labels wont show FAT/SUGER/SALT/ENERGY contents etc
it will have a DNA profile round the packaging a bit like a bar code label
but a tadge longer

if the pinkie was to be shunned god would have given us 3 fingers
and if he did we could all have given him two fingers and said ' give me my pinkie back
and i promise to use it always...even if i'm doing my own thing

if gavins' learning bass he 'll probably use his pinkie more than his ring finger
esp at the nut end due to the greater fret spacing..be interesting to hear what
his teachers approach is

it seems academy guitars are at the budget end of things
did you get the amplifier as well for £50?

292

(7 replies, posted in Guitars)

trying to find this on google but having no luck
you might have quoted the serial number?

as far as your problem is concerned ...if its a guitar for a beginner i shouldn't worry too
much about it not playing through an amp since it is an acoustic guitar and an amp isn't
necessary at the moment
the fault could be one of several things and might be quite simple to fix
what you really need is a friend who plays guitar to have a look ( its a bit difficult
over the internet )
try these first though
plug the lead ( only ) into the amp and turn it up slightly...hold the lead by the insulation
and dab the end of the jack plug ( the thing that plugs into the guitar )with the other
hand...does it buzz?...if so your lead and amp are ok..if not the lead or amp are faulty

if your lead and amp are ok plug the  lead into the guitar and turn all knobs fully clockwise
and all sliders to the top position ( this is the preamp for the transducer pickup)

if theres no sound then it could be a faulty preamp/or internal wiring ( make sure the guitar is
plugged into the amp and the amp is on and turned up a bit )

this is where nice mr guitar man comes in......

OR take it back to the shop and get them to fix it ( if its a charity shop..probably wishful thinking)

please see if there are any other numbers on the guitar

ps whether its worth paying for a repair cant be assessed till the value of the
guitar can be established

has it got a model number ?

strings should be changed never... or at breakage ( whichever is the sooner )

or is there some reason why they should be changed every 5 min ?

replacing strings for this reason or that reason is usually manifested
by string manufacturers

replacing string wont sound any better...it will just sound like you've got
new strings on ...and that will last for 24hrs max..so if you like the new string sound
take out a bank loan and wash your hands everytime you play ( in bleach )

always have spare strings though cause you might need one one day

pros: well played ..well recorded ...heavy metal at a high standard
cons: non really ( IMO )

suggestions: if its an opinion about the song ( s )
then post an acoustic version of it ( them )
..ruling out any genre issues

all in all ...good sound...ROCK ON!

EDIT: on a second listen the first song sounds like it could stand up
away from the heavy metal environment (as gar tint  i too  am not into heavy metal )

perhaps some heavy metallers would care to comment

this is all very true ...but it can lead to bad technique...it can lead to ' why use my pinky
when i can reach with my third finger syndrone '
with proper technique and practice stretching capability will come naturally
unnatural stretching can be avoided by good positional playing' and techniques such
as 'tapping'

for any beginner having lessons its one fret one finger ie 4 consecutive frets played by 4 consecutive fingers
no compromise ...

there is an optimum way to set a guitar up.. the only variable would be the action
( height of strings ) some people like a higher action esp on acoustics ..this gives
a fuller sound. electrics and basses usually have as low an action as possible ( but not too low )
so aiding faster and easier playing ( if the action is too low you will get fret buzz and rattle etc )
but its all down to preferences
string gauges also need to be considered ( lighter for electrics / heavier for acoustics )
i find '10's guage a good all rounder but there again its preferences
pick up heights are not that critical
there are several youtube vids on git setups

same as guitars..any half decent bass can be set up and play as well as the next
i have an ' axeman ' probably made in outer mongolia..but its set up and feels as
good as anything else i've  tried...i think every git player should learn how to set up
a guitar ....action , intonation  neck relief and nut break height  being the most important
as far as sound is concerned this is very subjective but a bit of nob twiddling and effects
etc can usually sort things out
