or get a spare lead and put a 3.5mm jack on one end ( this will plug into the mic i/p of your computer )
this will cost you about 20p instead of some silly price a shop will charge you
you can also get a guitar to usb cable

Re: Playing onto a computer (7 replies, posted in Recording / Studio)
run sound recorder ( programs-->accessories-->entertainment-->sound recorder )read the help
files and start recording ..if you want to get serious download soundforge or something
similar ( see james's post )
you dont need a dedicated soundcard for starters
if you have no interface use a git lead with a mini jack on one end so you can plug into
the mic i/p of your soundcard or use a mic ( for acc ) with the same type of plug
if you have a small mixer ( interface ) plug that into the line i/p..plug your git or mic into the mixer
and record from that
the computer ins ( and outs )are stereo..using 3.5mm stereo mini jacks ( usually )
usb interfaces are available but i wouldn't use one personally

Re: Tuning (16 replies, posted in Everything Else)
we've been here before.........i use ffloyds on two of my gits ...i dont use a trem...so they're both
locked with blocks to stop any rocking...once tuned the only thing that affects them is temperature
but with the fine tuners( so the machine heads are not disturbed ) and a good tuner ( esp boss tu 2/3 )re tune is fast accurate and rock solid
anybody who's git balances on springs ( trem arm) ...thinks it will return to perfect tuning esp after dive bombing a few dozen times is in cloud cuckoo land...if you dont use a trem get rid of the springs...if you do a ffloyds
the best option if set up right

Re: Autotune (8 replies, posted in Recording / Studio)
you can make it very transparent...you can even change the melody lines...which is great for
sorting harmonies before re-recording them ( advisable ).but the closer to pitching the less processing
will be needed...this is still far better than having to retake to get things right. it is a tool to get things
right quickly ..not as a means to create a good singer
IMO singing is about pitching...a good singer might not necessarily have a good voice
but its a dam sight better listening than a singer with a good voice that cant pitch properly
it is the second instance where melodyne/autotune come into their own
i reacon any voice pitched properly sounds great...so dont worry what your voice sounds like
voices are like instruments .. not better or worse..just different
stevie wonder/paul mccartney are good example of dogs blx pitching as opposed to
ray davis ( kinks ) who tends to sing flat.....you cant comment on modern artists because
you can bet your bottom dollar they all use pitching aids for convenience in the studio...bar nobody
thats why most of them sound shite live..but when making records any decent producer will make sure the
pitchings near enough
699 31-01-11 20:35:49
Re: Autotune (8 replies, posted in Recording / Studio)
use melodyne its a vst plug ( cubase 5 has this built in )...great for correcting pitching issues...
saves the chore of 'dropping in' to getperfect takes
ive spent countless hours with vocalists trying to get perfect takes ( pitching wise ) melodyne
is a godsend as is autotune..these devices save studios £1000's
and dont think pitching device should be used live tho ( unless for effect ) ..its just a studio thing
if you have a really awful voice but sing in tune ...melodyne/autotune wont make it any better
since you are already singing in tune..they dont improve the timbre of the voice
which poses the question ...what is an awful voice????is there such a thing
