it has to be assumed that in this instance that the guitar is perfectly in tune played perfectly in time with no bum notes..if any of these conditions apply then its not fair on the listener to judge the song

but ....many a wounderful song ( in my sole opinion ) has been  rendered with a very lacklustre performance

and perhaps thats the  benchmark...take away the slick performance  the bells and whistles
the phil spectre recording the silky vocals...play it slightly out of tune sing it a bit flat

if its a good melody ........job done...you will know

listen to lenon and mccartney

some fantastic music exists but this is a combination of musicianship/recording techniques/arrangements
and imagination....the song is just a part of brew

a good melody doesnt need any of this

at the end of the day any comment / suggestion / advice etc is purely an opinion
nobody can say what a good song is  or  what a bad song is....if you dont like a song
that doesnt make it  a bad song .....but what is a bad song ..if they exist...

its like paintings ......i think picasso's painting are the biggest load of toss since paint was invented
...am i right or wrong ...no matter what any nob headed paint critic says..to me ther're the biggest
load of shite since shite...opinion is not debatable

how can a individuals  interpretations of  music be judged???

the british public were brainwashed about  how many people were killed during the blitz..this was to keep moral up...and it worked..some things are best kept secret. what is kept secret can be a tricky one..this is where wikileaks becomes a total load of toss  . who needs to know that the australian prime minister has got  piles and thinks the british are a load of tossers.is there no such thing as  privacy ...nobody will dare to do or say anything shortly..tie this in with heath and safety/pc correctness/political correctness human rights and all the other shite and the whole thing is getting a load of bollox

and how do you know whats being leaked is the truth..if you hear something thats opposite to what
orthority has said....then you tend to believe it ...this is what propoganda was during the war...spread a load of lies and sow the seeds of doubt

it seems now anything printed on wikif***leaks will be taken as gospel..your getting shafted now from another direction

it makes you wonder what you would be playing like now if you never had any outside
influences..or is it watching/listening to better players that produces motivation..everybody admits
to being influenced by somebody.

playing with controlled ' bad habits ' ie just upstrokes might be a great way of strengthening other
weakness such as hammer ons and pull offs

When you write, how much of the song do you have in your mind

me personally..i always have a virtual melody in my head running parallel with the riff/chord
progression..giving a musical feel to whats happening..i then finish up with a verse and chorus
say ...which a good songwriter can then put his own melody to..how he feels it should be (esp
the verse chorus bridge arrangement )
i think you must be on the same ' wavelength ' though for this to work ..ie liking the same
genre of song...i have written songs and got singers to sing them..but i prefer to write 'backings'
and leave the melodies/lyrics to those who are a lot more capable than me

a lot of paul simon songs have been created like this

i dont teach professionally...only when asked as a favour...so i say when you think you know most of that
we'll move on with another lesson ..unless .....the've got genuine problems

i usually start the same as you but chuck in a couple of easy open chords

one bad habit that paid of:
in his early days paul gilbert admitted not to playing upstrokes ( because he didnt think it was norm ) so he built
up his speed with pull offs and hammer ons ..once he found out about alternate picking he went
into turbo

didn't know the string names numbers..in effect hadn't learnt anything.

why dont you put bass /drums on to it ..organise it into verse / choruses and write
a bridge cause it sounds really good..if you could then pass it on to a singer songwriter
who could add a melody and lyric..record it into cubase you've got yourself a really good track

im saying this cause this is exactly how i put a song together...im sh!te at melody and esp lyric
and the writers i work with ( always fellow musos or friends ) dont usually know a G chord  from a Kmaj7
but can write and sing

i would definitely pursue this one ..
+the guitar sounds really nice

just wondered if theres a magic fomula to keep a newbee motivated
most kids want to learn the guitar because its ' cool '
..they have a couple of lessons then cant remember why they wanted to be a
guitarwhatsit in the first place

i had one 13yr old ( on his first lesson ) that didn't want to learn any chords because he
had promised to play lead git  with a band the following weekend

i wonder how many newbees have packed up after 1 lesson

to waffle a bit:
when parents push there offspring into learning an instrument..does this produce
talented players or people that can just play  instruments

whats the difference between a talented musician and a musician

to waffle a bit more
is a shred player ( 20,000 notes per sec ) more talented than any other git player
that can only play whats regarded as normal

what is talent?????

i agree with that ♪♪
i think many guitarists think fast is ' cool  ' or ' macho ' it can be both when applied
appropriately .....but i have seen many a track ruined by unexplainable fast playing..having
spent many (t)years running a recording studio

i was also at a ' new faces ' ( the talent show of the 70,s ) recording..and saw my mates band
ripped apart by micky most and  tony hatch because of the immature playing of the lead git
player who didn't know what slow meant ...he wrecked the song..even after being warned about flying off on an ego trip ( he aught to have been sacked
before the broadcast..not after..which he was )

i think shred is a cult and there are some  amazing technicians ..one of my favourites
is paul gilbert...speed is an attribute and its nice to have the ability to play fast
when the music requires it
