i use shortcircuit 2 sampler ( free ).....you sample anything that you fancy...from any source....save
as an instrument and load into cubase as you need them...you build up your library bit by bit...i got ripped off by tascam ( withdrawing support for giga3 )...i would never use an instrument or system  that has to be activated via a website again

it can be a bit long winded but once you get it sorted theres no being p***ed about by sh!tehouse softsynth/
instrument vendors

the thing ive found is that you only need two or three good basses/bass drums/snares etc to fullfill the need for
most conventional tracks... buying synths and softsynths with billions of sounds is overkill

if you play in a band the bass drum/bass/snare etc is the same for every song you perform so i use the same philosophy ( had to look  that up ) when using cubase
i play in a duo doing covers and usually do 20 songs per gig using custom backings.....theve all got the same BD/sn/bass etc

there are good freebee instruments knocking about for starters though....goto
http://www.hitsquad.com/
http://www.vst4free.com/

import the mp3 into cubase ..put it on a track...click on the waveform image ( event )....then
along the info bar above the project window you will see among other things a fine tune adjustment....adjust in real time to pitch the track ( event ) to the nearest key ( or to the key you want to learn it in )
..if you want to make it permanent ' bounce ' the event....sound quality will only suffer if you  adjust several semitones ....but that shoudnt be an issue if you're just doing it for convenience purposes

i have to do it frequenly as the vocalist im working with at the moment seems to do everything
in ' E ' so if i want to learn a song thats recorded in ' A ' i would drop it 5 semitones.. it makes nailing the song that much easier...when its sussed the original mp3 is then discarded or whatever

if you're fretting the strings OK ...yes.. take it back and get the shop to fix it
and check it out before accepting it back

if its not in standard pitch for whatever reason put the track into cubase and fine tune it
then you will be able to sus it out and play along with it ( ie dont retune your git retune the track )

most guitar based releases are not referenced to standard pitch because there is no reason to be
...as long as the instruments in the performance are ' in tune ' thats all that matters... if you're using
a keyboard then every instrument is tuned to that...then ignoring  mastering skullduggery everything would
be at standard pitch

whats the best gauge for a 19" scale  ( 3/4 kids guitar )
at the moment i have put  a 36 on the low E tuned an octave higher
a 26 on the low A tuned an octave higher

and so on
it is not playable strung normally ( sounds like a sitar )

do they make sets for 3/4 scale?

whether you'er playing a note / chord /bar chord...each next fret up is a semitone higher ..
so if you are playing a C the next fret up is C# ( either a note or a chord ) and so on
(the chord must not change 'shape' and not include open strings )
C  C#  D  D# E  F  F# G  G#  A  A#  B  -- There is no B# and no E#

make a ' clock ' of the notes then you can start anywhere

going down a fret there is no Cb ( flat )  or  Fb  (  B# /  E#  res)

eg if you start @ E:   E  F  F#  G  G#  A  A#  B  C  C#  D  D#  E ( octave higher ) F  F#  G  ..and so on

hope this makes sense                                    A
                                                            G#        A#
                                                        G                   B
                                                       F#                   C
                                                         F                  C#
                                                            E           D
                                                                  D#

electrics usually have lighter guage strings ( thinner ) and are easier to press onto the fingerboard
the height of the strings ( action ) are usually lower on an electric  also...so having one could be useful
for you to practice barre chords and gradually build the strength in your hand....they are also very handy
to have around so it woudn't be a waste of money.....have both no need for either or...

if most people bought and ate just what they needed  ( especially my mate and his family )  there would be no need to increase food production for the next 50years

i agree
a pub is a place where you go of your own accord.. if you dont like people smoking..simple. dont go
i think ordinary joe bloggs though isnt bothered.... it down to the d!ck heads running the country once again

im a none smoker and all this is very debatable but its definately screwed the traditional pub

it is normal
just take it gradual and keep assessing the issue .. hopefully its just normal muscle fatigue..and will ease
as you get more into it...keep plodding on with your barre chords and best of luck

if your playing in a small pub with say 30 or 40 people in ..after a couple of numbers all of a sudden half of them disappear...yes they,re all outside smoking...it really p****es me off and everbody else including the
smokers..i agree something has to be done about smoking but not in the petty blanket indoor ban thats been implemented...why dont they go the whole hog and make alcohol and nicotine illegal substances
then we can have a revolution..its a case of nob heads making rules for people they dont give a sh!t about

eqing live is just a matter of taste...do you like thumbing bass and squeeling treble ..then pile it on
at your own discretion ( being sensible ) its your sound

eqing in a recording situation is a bit more selective as you have to sit on a track with other instruments
so.. in a nut shell if your record with the same sound ( and theres no reason not to ) then at a mixing situation you will probably have to filter parts of the recorded sound to sit in the track with other instruments

theres plenty of stuff on youtube about mixing and eqing etc

How often do you do gigs Polyal?

just on a saturday ..usually...rearly always pubs..the club scene pays more money but its
definately not a fun night out unless you like bingo and decibel meters

how many is there on the forum still playing in 5 piece bands regularly and making money i wonder
the whole local scene is diminishing due to the irresponsible behaviour of government policy
concerning alchohol prices and smoking restrictions...ruined the working mans social life in my opinion
ive  been on the other side of the microphone and seen it all crumble .. its a mess and a disgrace
shame on these people..what do other people think?

20 years ago..marshall 50watt 4x12cab miked up with a 5 piece rock band ( mainstream )
now..laptop with backings ( never mind ) zoom9150 12 channel mixer EV zx5a speakers ( amazing )
male/female vocalist

i use the zoom or marshall for recording..depends but mainly the zoom ...volume levels arnt an issue
..theres no speakers involved...in any case if youve got the revalver you should be able to get the  cranked up  sounds with that

bin playing for yonks but still get anxious at start of gig....its just getting over the first number knowing all the kit is working...a couple of beers first works wonders ( but not p*ss*d )
after the 1st number its a great feeling,,,you've got to go for it theres nothing better

if its your first gig youre going to be very nervous but thats all part and parcel of it

direct into a mixer (line i/p) ....the mixer goes to the computer...everthing recorded to cubase goes via the mixer...found this the most versatile way as any aux sound ( inc mics /television/radio/other computers ) have their own channels and can be recorded on the fly with no other setting up

craic?

yes definately dont buy online.....go to you local music shop...and get your hands on the one your buying
and like i said take an experienced guitarist with you....ollies never been to ireland

whatever you get make sure you get it setup by someone who knows what they're doing
it can always be made just that little bit better than the factory default. most gits are pretty good nowadays
and with a little tweaking you'll get yourself a really good git for a sensible price

its always a good idea to take a mate who knows about gits so he can advise and point you in the right direction..a saleman is a ...salesman?
