On the open Cmaj7 a G,F, E on the 1st, D and open B on the 2nd, same on the Fmaj7, a G on the 1st string for the Fm6, on the two D9 and C9 add a note on the 1st string two frets up with your little finger- don't forget to add a Abmaj7 to the Cmaj7 and Bbmaj7 when you move down the fretboard, John- and end or start your verse with a Cmaj scale played from D to D- D E F G A B C D, then the open Cmaj7 again.
I came up with Cmaj7, C9, Fmaj7, Fm6, Cmaj7, D9, then Cmaj7 up the fretboard, Bb maj7, Abmaj7, Fm6 and the open Cmaj7, in that order.

The string doesn't get wrapped around, Olly, it just goes through the hole twice, which eliminates string pressing on string as the string is tightened. Have you had the guitar a long time, by the way? I havn't seen a locking nut in years.

I can understand that, and you have a little one or two as well, don't you, at home? I don't do anything but garden or read or listen to music at home- the only guitar-related stuff I do at home is typing and printing lesson material- 5 or 6 hours at work is enough.

Re: TIPS FOR LEARNING A NEW TUNE (10 replies, posted in Song Analysis)
You should tune your guitar every single time you pick it up. Guitars tend to go out of tune quickly. Make sure your guitar is in tune when you begin to play it, and check the tuning frequently while you're practicing, as the act of playing the guitar can cause it to go out of tune.Hindi Song Lyrics
Need to tune your guitar every time you pick it up? Who needs it... OK, here's a little technique called lock-tight familiar to anyone who's worked with Fillipino musicians, most SE Asian guitarists and many aussie musicians as well.
When you re-string, rather than taking the string a little of the way through the hole and then winding it, take it all the way through the hole, pull it tight without kinking it, then put it through the hole again .
Then tune the string- you will be able to replace the string in a fraction of the usual time required using the traditional method, string breakage is reduced by around 80% and the strings will hold their tune, in some cases, for weeks.
There is another string technique called forcefield which I will be happy to post if anyone wants it, but personaly I find lock-tight to be the most effective.

Yes, I change the specials, pics and music courses every few months- I used JustHost to set it up, and found them cheap ( around 200 bucks for two years including domain name reg) and with a wide range of easy templates, plus a great chat facility for help. I can see what you mean about the same template on the computor site, and it presents very well indeed- the chat help is a great idea.
When I get a little spare time and you have as well I'd like to run a few more questions past you if that's OK- by message so I don't distract from the forum flow.
The ideal thing I feel would be to establish myself another income stream as old age creeps on

Re: tabs or sheet music? (2 replies, posted in Guitar Tabs)
Well, on the down side in TABS there is no indication of counting ie: the value of each note and the pace of the piece, but how often are you going to play a piece you have never heard? The big plus in TABS, I think, is the fact that there is no need for a stack of ledger lines on the top of the staff- and, as for pace, most printed music I see now doesn't have a metronome setting anyway, so I guess the publishers assume the musician to have heard the piece before they first play it and therefore know the speed at which it is played.
Sheet music, though, is far easier to work with if you are playing the piece as a solo, that is playing the melody or voice line combined with the chords.

Re: how often do you change strings on your electric (14 replies, posted in Everything Else)
Lower labour costs, and no unions, maybe? D'Addario ( $AUD 15 to 20 ) have a Darco range which is assembled in Mexico as well, sell for around nine bucks a set here. I didn't use anything special or change strings more than every five or six months until one day I backed a friend on his CD and heard the first run we did from months back- wow, the lack of resonance and attack after the strings were older changed my mind fast, and so did the DR's and Dr Tomastic Plectrum strings he was using on his gear...they left the Fender's I had on for dead.
Really, if you can improve your sound so much- and the increased speed and lack of finger-scrape if you use coated strings- for the sake of 5 or 10 bucks every three months or so I think it's well worth it.
I suggest people change their strings every four months if they are a basic student, and three or less months when they are more advanced or are playing more.
Elixers, John, are not a cheap string..they are 35 bucks a set here when a good set is $20 and a cheap but OK set like the Darco's is half that, but I'm convinced that if you were to try DR's, or Plectrum, or best of all Elixers, you wil notice a remarkable lift in brightness and tonal response, and speed as well.

That's certainly the case now, I feel. Takamine in particular is grossly overpriced, as are the bottom-end Fender Acoustics, although I played a Col Clarke Fender acoustic for the first time yesterday and it was really great.
I notice the Aria resonator I just got is made in China, and it's fine.

Do you retail using drop shipping? Most wholesalers here won't work on that basis, and margins are around 30%- no where enough to cover down-time and overheads, I feel, in todays economic climate. Freedom, who produce a vast range of pretty much every musical instrument under the Chinese sun, and are well worth checking out, work on a 100% margin through their disributors here- quality is that of gear that retails for at least double the RR. I assume they sell into the UK, Olly. Just a thought....

Yep, they sure did- in an excess of guilt, thousands were accepted without background checks or ID documents during the late 1970's, and while the political elite dabbed their dewy eyes and sipped their Chardonnay heroin importation and Asian organised crime grew a thousand percent in a matter of months.

Well, I hope you have better results from eBay than I had- and not just Ebay but about another 6 local aussie and international online sales and auction portals, with the aim of establishing a viable online addition to the retail sales I have at the moment from my music business...the end result for guitars that were high quality and I thought very keenly priced was a big fat zero. Which is why I find Olly's site and the range of gear available so impressive- it wouldn't be there unless it sells, I guess.
I've got to say it's a whole lot harder to sell online than I thought it would be.

...and just how long it is from when the thing comes out of the ground or off a branch until it hits your plate. A remarkably long time in the case of most supermarket foodstuff, I think. We run the house on solar power, as well, not all that difficult in this climate with a few adjustments, so no power costs aside from a new set of batteries every five or so years.

Take a look at the learntoplaymusic site, or search under ""Progressive music books"", Olly..they produce a huge range of adults and kids instruction books, mostly keyboard and guitar, available all over the world, which come with a CD and DVD so they can be used to teach yourself if you have some basic musical knowledge. We use the kids Keyboard books for kids music classes and retail them for 20 bucks.

Re: Picking, noises, and elimination. (2 replies, posted in Newbie Section)
If you are playing directly over the pick-ups the noise is more noticeable, so moving your right hand position slightly is one option- also the more vertical your pic is the less pic noise is transmitted, playing flatter increases it... and possibly the best option is to move to coated strings, such as Elixers.

I'm sure they will- I certainly do. If you like to work from sheet music on occasion, rather than TABS, a search for Pianotte will bring up a site used by music teachers to source printable retail-quality free sheet music for hundreds of popular pieces of music. Highly reccomended.
