Just had my first lesson.Very interesting. This is my homework for this week,
Arpeggios in A Major, D Major,A Minor and D Minor.
Petatonic Minor Scale in A and D
A Blues and D Blues.

Walking finger technique with a G , A ,B ,C , then an eercise with all of the notes together in a 4/4 beat
He drew some diagrams for me, so if anyone is interested i will scan them, and post them

Oh yes Polyal, i nearly forgot, he made me use my pinky a lot default/big_smile
Another thing i forgot to mention. He will only teach people to read music. He will never show anyone how to play tabs, because if you can read music, there is no need for tabs.Tabs will never teach you improvisation. That is what he said anyway

Apparently, according to her public facebook, Jamiroqai had found her playing on some covers on youtube, they invited her to play on their South American tour. All her 9 covers are great
It is amazing what you find on youtube. This guitarist  has posted 15 songs on youtube, and nothing is known about her despite loads of websites trying to find out about her, she seems to have just vanished. The nonchalant way she plays makes it look so effortless. Her last post was 10 months ago.She doesnt wear earphones though.

I have been watching lots of bass players on youtube playing cover songs. Why do they wear headphones when playing?

Probably right Polyal, but i lump them in with novelty bands, not serious bands

Oh, and leave Grandad We Love You alone. default/tongue Maybe a bad record, but Clive Dunn was one of my heroes, so i will forgive him for that.I loved Corpral Jones  default/smile

I think the thing about the worst records is what they are trying to represent. You can have The Chicken Song, Star Trecking, The Birdy Song etc. They are all awful, but the artists probably know as well/SO it is impossible really to put your finger on the worst. How about Agadoo?
Then you have the serious artists, which is a different catagory for me.So, without doubt, in my mind it has to be...... Paul Simon......You Can Call Me Al. Most other songs like Rap, George Micheal, or any Wham song,a i can usually block out, but Call Me Al has me reaching for the off button,
By the Way, Wham have to have been the worst group i had to endure while growing up ,

No. I have left him under no illusion of the challenges that lay ahead of us both default/tongue

I got my Bass today, so i am raring to go.After reading the topic of some of the posters  bad habits, i think the best thing i can do is get lessons. So i booked up Thursday, and can`t wait default/smile

The album that probably had the most influence on me was probably Setting Sons by The Jam.I saved up my pocket money to buy it.That is the album that sparked my interest in music, and i bought a guitar. Not that i could play it.

I am probably going to get a bit of stick, but Steve Vai, Malmsteen and most of the other speed guitarists as i find them very boring.I don`t like instrumentals which they specialise in.Talented, but boring.I find them better when they are with real bands and not just shredding for the sake of it.

After Woodstock, Alvin Lee was known as the fastest guitar player. Not sure if he was faster than some of the guitarists in the list, but he was the trailblazer for these guitarists in my opinion

I like most of the guitarists that have been named, with the addition of Alvin Lee from Ten Years After.I think he is under rated.Sadly he died a few days ago default/sad
Also i don`t think i saw Richie Blackmore on the list.Today, as in someone who is not 50 plus years old, i really like Joe Bonamassa. He is great live

I can`t cast a critical comment to your playing as i have no real guitar playing ability. I  would say though, if went to watch a band, i wouldn`t be unhappy to see you on the guitar

Hello all.
My name is Gavin.I have tried to play the guitar a few times but have not had any success.Anyway, i got Rocksmith, and thought i would give it another chance. The first time i tried to play was in the 80`s as a kid, but no internet and lots of distractions. Then i tried again, but with just buying a house, things got in the way.But now i am back to try again.
I have an Ibanez GIO, and have just bought a Warwick Rockbass Fortress, with a Marshall MG30 amp.I have already had some good help, so it is good to be here
My musical tastes vary from Deep Purple, Led Zep, Who,Small Faces, through to 70`s early 80`s punk, to Oasis,Rage Against The Machine, through to Red Hot Chilli Peppers type of stuff. If i can get to play the Bass better than Sid Vicious i will be happy  default/smile

Thanks for the replies.
I realise that names don`t mean everything, i had never heard of Warwick until a few days ago. I went on reviews more than anything. I have an Ibanez guitar, (can`t play it) so that was what i was originally looking for, but the Warwick seemed better value for the money than a similar Ibanez
I guess the setup is just starting to get used to the guitar and playing with the settings as you go, or is there a formula to it?

Thanks for the replies. That is my evenings tv sorted out tonight  default/smile

I find it good fun.I tried learning the guitar with books, but as a householder, things like entertainment got put on hold.I found out about Rocksmith at work, and found it more enjoyable than just learning from books. It doesn`t actually teach you how to play as such.I found out more by watching a clip of Flea showing the walking technique and others. So while it has made learning fun, i will still need to learn a lot by myself.(or with the forums help)

Well, i will duck for cover for telling you the reason for me trying to play the guitar as i don`t think many of you will approve  default/tongue .
Rocksmith. The programme on the PC which allows me to play along with the bands.Sweet Home Alabama was on it, so i couldn`t resist

Hello.
I am new to playin the guitar.I can`t seem to cover the frets and strings as my fingers don`t seem to stretch that far.I assume it is all down to strengthening and training the fingers.Has anyone got any tips for stretching them please?
Thanks
Gavin

Hello.
I am looking at learning how to play a Bass guitar.I have borrowed a freinds guitar but will need to get one soon. The guitar i have borrowed is a Danelectro Longhorn.I don`t like the look of it, but it sounds ok.
Anyway, the real question is which guitar.I am probably looking for a secondhand one, and was drawn to Warwick guitars.Would anyone recommend them, as it looks like i can get a decent one for around £300 and should get my money back if i want to resell it. If noone would recommend one, is there an alternative please?

Thanks
Gavin
