Hi. Most of us know about the main nodes where you can find the best harmonics, on the 12th, 9th, 7th , and 5th frets, where natural string divisions let harmonics ring in 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 string length. You can also get harmonics on any note by simply touching the string just at one octave higher very lightly as you tap/hammeron the note. It takes a little practice to get proficient, and it helps to have a 24 fret neck to identify harmonic locations in the second octave. Theoretically you could also get the 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, etc, string lengths this way as well for any note, although the harmonic points are more difficult to identify than the octaves.

Topic: Arpeggio approach (2 replies, posted in Music Theory)
Arpeggios are simple and very nice to play, they are formed by playing the 1st 3rd and the 5th notes of a scale on two octaves
and you can make yourself your arpeggios
Most common is 3string and 5 string, arpeggios
Plz add on your knowlegde of Arpegeggios over here , also if u have any question i will be happy to help you out
There are next to unlimited ways to bring new life to old arpeggios.
Here's a trick where I use a 1-1-3-3 approach on a Aminor arpeggio, in
other words I play it like this 1-1-3-3, 2-2-4-4, 3-3-5-5,... and so
on.

Re: Do I need to know notes? (24 replies, posted in Music Theory)
Honestly, when I started to learning guitar, I didn't know much about notes. It was something like a boring stuff for me. Actually, this is generally not boring. If you have the talence of sound, if you can understand the difference between the two same songs which sing by different people, you may have the "listening talent".
Notes make this difference and your ability better. When you see the note, you can play the same song faster then you imagine. But without the notes, everything would be hard.
Even though you don't need to learn the notes perfectly, you should learn them because they make playing easier
knowing notes is according to me very important,,it helps u alot in solos, when u might need to switch from one key to other
devolupin ear takes time and it depends from person to person,,some devolp it fast some take time

Re: Bends (13 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
Great tip.
Especially if you have to bend using your third and fourth finger.
I always would use my first, second (and third when avialable) behind the finger doing the bend.
This gives the most accurate fluid bend and allows you to hold it in a steady stable fashion
very nicely said,,and yes two fingers i very important

Re: Before blasting licks (7 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
warming up is a must and must be atleast 20 mins--tht to non stop,,thts how i proceed, i might also give up at times after warming up if i get bored, but i almost never skip those first 20 mins
again i follow a lot of patters and keep playin at a constant speed, not too fast not too slow

Re: How does Joe Satriani make that squeel? (6 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
Hi Treepot
You are correct. It is indeed an artificial harmonic.
To do this, as you go to pick a note, allow your thumb to slightly touch the strings. If you do it in the right place you will get a high pitched noise - this is a harmonic.
Doing this in different places you will get different notes.
Joe usually does his scream by 2 harmonics at the same time on the B and G string.
He brings his left hand to the whammy bar and dives the bar then brings it back up and above the original pitch.
Amazing stuff

Re: Chromatic exercises (13 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
tho i totally agree with oilly , i think chromatic excerc are very important,it helps to build co-ordination among all the four fingers
PS.-we are not following just one patter ie 1234,, mix it up
1324,1243, 1432, 1423 ,anythin and everythin possible, thts how fingers move

Re: Bad Habits (31 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
i never strted off with a picm, i used my fingers...biggest mistake,,tho if u playin claassical guitar u use fingers
then alternate picking is yes a must, but i use both of the alternate and wrong pickin together, helps to build speeed,, but a beginner must always go with alternate first

Re: Bending a Note (8 replies, posted in Guitar Techniques)
well my frnd bending is one thing tht i loveeeeee
well always be sure of wht ur guitar can offer, u dont wanna take to extrem levels or ur strings might break
there are many types of bend
,1/4,1/2, full ,1 1/2, 2(only if ur guitr can)
one full means tht u going from one natural note to another natural note
and so others can be calculated

Re: Time and what should be practiced in beginning? (13 replies, posted in Newbie Section)
I don't think there's a right time to practice as long as you're free to play with your guitar then play with it. The more time you have to spend practicing the better chance you will be good at it.
very truly said no right time,
but make sure if u have less time with u, atleast one hr a day is essential,so tht ur fingers can keep movin,
i will be soon strtin out some lessons here to help out newbiew, how to begin and wht way to proceed

Re: My Guitars (9 replies, posted in Guitars)
I have several guitars.
They consist of an Ibanez RG Prestige which is a lovely guitar. This I use the most.
I then have a couple of other electrics. one is downtuned to easily allow me to play along with all those down tuner bands such as Guns n Roses and Ozzy.
I then have a Yamaha acoustic guitar. I use this a lot to sit and sing along to some Tenacious D.
I bought a semi-acoustic guitar a while back also - one with the rounded back by Applause. I bought it to allow easy recording of the acoustic guitar. In fact I now use it all the time as a regular acoustic as it is so nice to play and very comfortable.
I do have a bass guitar as well but this is rarely used. I only bought this to record with but unfortauntely do not find the time for it.
very nice collection my friend
i dont have a bass guitar i l eave tht for the pro's ,which i am not..lol
well my guitar are all custom made,to meet my req, i just use two guitars, my electric and my acoustic
no more thn tht
