Self-Taught Music Theory - Possible or Not?

Post by BluesGuy »

I've recently become very interested in music theory, harmony, progressions, and all that. Can I learn it on my own without a teacher?

As a self-taught musician myself, I believe it is absolutely possible to learn music theory on your own. There are plenty of resources available online, from books to tutorials to courses. It may take more time and effort, but it can definitely be done!

I'm mostly self-taught as well, and I've found that diving into music theory has really enhanced my playing and songwriting. Don't be afraid to explore on your own and experiment with what you learn. It can be a rewarding journey!

I'm just starting out on guitar and music theory, and this thread is encouraging to read. It's good to know that self-teaching is a viable option. I'll definitely look into some resources to kickstart my own learning journey.

While having a teacher can be beneficial, being self-taught allows for a different kind of creativity and personal connection to the music you're learning. Keep practicing, studying, and experimenting, and you'll see progress in no time.

I've been self-taught on guitar for years and recently started diving into music theory on my own. It can be challenging at times, but the satisfaction of understanding how music works is worth the effort. Keep pushing yourself and don't be afraid to ask questions!

I've been teaching myself music theory for a while now, and while it can be a slow process, the sense of accomplishment when things start to click is amazing. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself and keep pushing your understanding. Good luck on your musical journey!
